Hatred is often considered the opposite of love, but in many ways it is much more complicated. It also may be considered one of the dominant emotions of our time, as individuals, groups, and even nations express or enact hatred to varying degrees. What is hatred? Where does it come from, and what does it reveal about the hater? And is hatred always a bad thing? Brogaard makes a deep dive into the moral psychology of one of our most complex and vivid emotions.

could've been much shorter.

There were some parts that needed the detail. Such as the emotions that lead up to hatred for example.
However, she spent so much time with the details that she got away from the premise of the book. She said she was going to argue for why we need hatred. She only made a few positive notes on it.
After completing the book all I could think was that the author had an imperfect view on the topic. For example she spent an entire chapter breaking down misogyny without mentioning misandry a single time throughout the book...
Not to say there aren't good notes about hatred in this book... You just have to cleave through a lot of pointless filler.
Also, I don't like when authors talk about themselves in a book thats not about them. (just a minor nitpick)
And with the narrator... She was so quick and banal with her tone that it was hard to realize when she switched topics.
Could've been shorter. Performer could've had more fun reading.
