Severe trigger warning

I've never paid much attention to trigger warnings, but this is the rapiest book I have ever heard. I know she's a concubine, but if she's not about to be sold off to some guys to use, she's remembering the king's manipulation or her times being forced as a homeless child. There is not 5 straight minutes in this book where she isn't in danger of being 'used' and barely any hope of her fighting back ever.
That being said, it's an entertaining premise and I would *consider* reading book 2 to see where it goes. If you took out all the S.A. parts. it would be a very entertaining 1 hour book.

Unfortunately, once she arrives in her new hometown, everyone there seems just a tad off-kilter, and Lexie's cousin insists the citizens are magical.

Reads like fan fiction

It's not fan fiction, but it sure seems like it. The narrator complains about her weight and other people reacting to it at least once every half hour. She even mentioned she's only a size 14, so I get the idea that the author has issues.
The shallow, vapid narrator talks about fashion and reality tv entirely too often and has to choose between two gorgeous men. It's a self-insert fan fiction... without the fan fiction part.
That said, it was entertaining enough to fonish, but I did groan in exasperation a lot. If I wasn't covered in gunk from painting the bathroom, I probably would have turned it off and picked something else.

If you like Harry Dresden, try this one.

It's pretty good considering it's the first in a series. That first one is always trying to find it's footing. It has the potential to be an amazing series! It has a Dresden Files feel to it. A strong, but flawed main character. I look forward to more.

Great narrator, lackluster writing

No xenomorphs

This is a pretty interesting tale of the politics and characters of the Covenant and the sabotage of a fanatic group. They never leave Earth, though. Xenomorphs are only present in the visions one dude has. Even then, just barely. If you're still interested after reading all that, it was pretty good and I still recommend it.
