Historia
Sixty percent of humanity - some four-point-three billion people - live in debilitating poverty. The standard development narrative suggests that alleviating poverty in poor countries is a matter of getting the internal policies right, combined with aid from rich countries. But anthropologist Jason Hickel argues that this approach misses the broader political forces at play. Global poverty - and the growing divide between "developing" and "developed" countries - has to do with how the global economy has been designed over the course of 500 years. Global inequality doesn't just exist; it has been created.

How we got here.
Revisado: 09-30-24
This is a fantastic book! The author lays out in easy to understand terms how we got to where we are today as a global society, facing the challenges of massive inequality and environmental collapse. The author offers insight from himself and many other respected sources as to how we can invent a future that does not rely on growth for the sake of growth.

Historia
Soon after WWII, U.S. statesman Dean Acheson warned that creating Israel on land already inhabited by Palestinians would "imperil" both American and all Western interests in the region. Despite warnings such as this one, President Truman supported establishing a Jewish state on land primarily inhabited by Muslims and Christians.

Incredible history of the creation of Israel.
Revisado: 08-16-24
I wish I had read this book earlier. This book provides history of the United States role in creating Israel. It was an ill conceived idea from the start that was advised against by numerous US and Europeans. Unfortunately these warnings were not listened to and the world is dealing with the injustice and destruction created by Israel.

Historia
In this major work of daring criticism and analysis, scholar and political commentator Marc Lamont Hill and Israel-Palestine expert Mitchell Plitnick spotlight how holding fast to one-sided and unwaveringly pro-Israel policies reflects the truth-bending grip of authoritarianism on both Israel and the United States.

Detailed and easy to listen to.
Revisado: 08-13-24
This book is easy to follow and provides lots of information explaining how the past lead to the presentsituation in Palestine. The overwhelming level of racism and injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people is heartbreaking. The author does a great job of detailing the US and European complicity in establishing and perpetuating these injustices that have only increased exponentially since this book was written. The author concludes with a glimmer of hope for the future by calling on us to respect the human rights of each person involved regardless of nationality or religion.

This book provided an opportunity for me to look at life from a new perspective and rethink some of my previously held the beliefs and opinions. I enjoyed listening to Rainn Wilson narrate his own words as only he can. Informative and at times laugh out loud funny!

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.
