Feel good summer book
Revisado: 03-10-24
This is a true, feel good book to make you think of summer days. Very predictable, but in a good way. Good characters will make you smile. no groundbreaking plot here, but a good book to smile and escape to a small sea side town.

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Fun book if you like d&d, but feel like spacing out on a low stakes read. Good characters, fun plot.

Historia
With neither friends nor family, Lucy Snowe sets sail from England to find employment in a girls' boarding school in the small town of Villette. There she struggles to retain her self-possession in the face of unruly pupils, an initially suspicious headmaster and her own complex feelings, first for the school's English doctor and then for the dictatorial professor Paul Emmanuel. Drawing on her own deeply unhappy experiences as a governess in Brussels, Charlotte Brontë's last and most autobiographical novel is a powerfully moving study of isolation and the pain of unrequited love....

Good story, good narration- but you need to speak French..
Revisado: 06-19-23
Warning a good portion of this book is in French. I don’t speak French so was not prepared. Sometimes you could guess what was said based on the responses, but others times you can get really lost. And one or to times a critical plot points is completely missing if you don’t understand French… BUT… This was a good story, that weaves the lives of different characters into one narrative. A bit dated but still good.

Good story, light hearted and a good narrator
Revisado: 04-15-23
I found this book on the list of “feel good” novels. Very glad I read it. Good story mixing the new with the old. Very upbeat and lighthearted, but really draws you in. Narrator did a good job and complements the story and characters well.

Historia
With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Historia
The opening sentence of John Irving's breakout novel, The World According to Garp, signals the start of sexual violence, which becomes increasingly political. "Garp's mother, Jenny Fields, was arrested in Boston in 1942 for wounding a man in a movie theater." Jenny is an unmarried nurse; she becomes a single mom and a feminist leader, beloved but polarizing. Her son, Garp, is less beloved, but no less polarizing.

Written very well, excellent story, but… has some very graphic sexual violence
Revisado: 01-02-23
This is an excellent read very well written enjoyed it thoroughly. The description brings such vivid pictures to your imagination. Performance is subtle, but feels like a fantastic storyteller.
Be warned this is a very well written book and has some very descriptive sections related to sexual violence that could be triggering for some…

Beautifully written, good narrator,
Revisado: 11-26-22
Highly recommend reading(listening). narrator did well. It is well written, with descriptive passages that generate wonderful imagery. Is thought-provoking in a emotional way, but still an easy read. Interconnection of characters is complex, and vey clever. But not hard to follow.

Awe and exhilaration—along with heartbreak and mordant wit—abound in Lolita, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert's obsession for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America.

Classic well written, but hard to hear
Revisado: 07-19-22
This is a classic novel from the 1950s that had controversy around it when published. It was written beautifully but the subject matter is hard to hear, just be prepared to feel uncomfortable.
Performance was amazing, fit perfectly with the characters.

Historia
In the small coastal city of Oran, Algeria, rats begin rising up from the filth, only to die as bloody heaps in the streets. Shortly after, an outbreak of the bubonic plague erupts and envelops the human population. Albert Camus' The Plague is a brilliant and haunting rendering of human perseverance and futility in the face of a relentless terror born of nature.

Written in the 40s, but could be this year..
Revisado: 07-01-22
this book may be a classic and has a very pointed story to tell. Well written, but a bit over descriptive. Very deep look at humanity, but after the events of 2020 and 2021 it hits a little too close to home.
