Historia
Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

FLAT COPY CAT
Revisado: 08-23-23
Spoiler alert. A pitiful attempt to copy the flavor of the Thursday Murder Club, as it looks like this came out one year after the Thurs. series. Ridiculous far-fetched ending when the gals come to the rescue while the police follow behind, but both arrive together. Would that ever happen with police letting the women precede their entry in a rescue? And then there is an issue about character. Why in the world would the author create a situation that was not necessary in the last lines of the book with an unacceptable issue. I'm not listening to any more of these.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

The old adage, "Write what you know;" well first thing I noticed was that the heroine has it, and her man has it. Textbook Typical. & so I realized that the author has it. This book is Not funny. Her attitude is that everyone with faith is a sociopath and every man is a self-serving cad. And why everyone thinks this is funny, I cannot figure out. The funeral scene and surrounding scenes are NEVER to be believed--So far out there, its just weird. And to top it all off, the author has her little jabs of politics. I hate it when an author slips in their personal politics to not "make friends and influence readers."

Planes Trains & Automobiles Without the Humor
Revisado: 06-26-23
Planes Trains & Automobiles Without the Humor--that says it all; so it gets pretty boring and exasperating and frustrating.
All I could think, is the author just watched the movie & decided to write this book. Recommend it? No. But the author leaves it wide open for the conclusion in a sequel.

DISTURBING
Revisado: 12-12-22
No spoiler alert here: It was really good at first & I thought I would buy every one of the books available from this author. Then the book-worm turned. It was so disturbing that I had to switch to another book for awhile twice while nearing the end. I was going to ask for a return when I got done listening--but not even sure I could finish it. I couldn't listen to it in bed anymore. I finally finished it today. Its like one of those thriller movies where at the end, the last camera scene fades away, leaving you with a feeling of an anticipation of a really creepy disturbing "oooh...what's next?" This takes the cake. Then I realized because of the creepy ending, that it appeared to me to be the author's plan all along, & that DOES take talent. I don't want to do a spoiler alert here, so I won't say much, I thought the author was minimizing something, but she carefully interwove it into the story & ending. I'm so glad I hitched up my courage & finished it- HA!

Historia
In "Murder at the Mousetrap," the first Bunburry book, fudge-making and quaffing real ale in the local pub are matched by an undercurrent of passion, jealousy, hatred and murder - laced with a welcome dose of humour. Alfie McAlister has retreated from London to the peace and quiet of the country to recover from a personal tragedy. But an accidental death - which may have been no accident - reveals that the heart of England is far from the tranquil backwater he imagined.

HUH?
Revisado: 10-17-22
Nathaniel Parker is an excellent narrator as well as actor; but why can't any Brit get an American accent correct? They ALL have the same horrible accent for an American which no American has ever had. So I asked a Brit friend of mine if we do the same to the Brits when we try & imitate them, and she said YES, you all don't get it just right, even though we think we have it right. So there you have it. Anyway listening to his attempt at an American accent was like nails on the chalkboard--female was harsh, brash & horrible. Aside from that, the stories are so short, and then all of a sudden we find out that the mystery is solved, & we are told about it later in like an epilogue. Its just weird. Our hero is handsome & charming but extremely fragile--fear of cows, fear of driving a car, yada yada.... Weird again. And his fears are not credible. We have two female interests, and one is the harsh brash weird American with a strong and horrible personality--due to the writing and narration. The other strong female is a cop with a choppy way of talking (due to narration.) Our writer makes all cops stupid (except our female cop;) & our hero & his two auntie friends KNOW they WILL solve the murders on their own. Great Britain has around 67 million people, and USA has almost six times that figure; & Americans love anything to do with the Brits & especially the Cotswold's; so why paint the American this way when I've read that we are the best customers of this genre? Yikes, cozy me out of these cozies.

Historia
Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, have started a new Christmas tradition. Their local pet store has a Christmas tree, where instead of ornaments there are wishes from those in need. One poignant wish leads Andy to a child named Danny, whose selfless plea strikes a chord. Danny asked Santa for a coat for his mother, a sweater for his dachshund, Murphy, and for the safe return of his missing father.

Another star performance in writing and narration. We see the beginning of a new series kind of starting here. Fantastic! I found this book extremely funny maybe more than usual. It was like an extra special pre-Christmas present.

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Not ready to give up the life yet, they come up with a proposal for fellow former cop, Laurie Carpenter, and her investigating partner, Marcus. They call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted.

Thrilled with the spin-off series
Revisado: 09-12-20
Now we can enjoy two different series with all our beloved characters. Fun new viewpoint from a new character. Its a different narrator, so it takes a bit of adjustment to hear Andy's different voice...but we can deal with it. In the Andy Carpenter series, with Grover Gardner's voice, I picture Andy as a funny young handsome Jack Benny which does sound exactly like a young Jack Benny. (Its true -- I have several classic movies with a young Jack Benny.) Don't judge the book by a different narrator you are not used to. Its still a great series. So lets allow the new narrator, Fred Berman, a little growing room to change and mature Andy's voice a little. The other characters are fine in the narration.

The new Kings Lake Central murder squad is about to spend its first morning on team-building exercises and reviewing cold cases when the call comes in that the body of one of the city's rough sleepers has been found in a shop doorway. It happens, someone says, he isn't the first to die on the streets and he won't be the last, but the story the new team begins to uncover is far from routine.

Thrilled with the spin-off series
Revisado: 09-12-20
What a talent to be able to start a new spin-off series that is completely satisfying. Chris Walters is the new hero & our author leaves our heart cliff-hanging and grieving for the details of D,C. Smith's ending fate. Very well done. This is so good that I am now wanting to start over with The D.C. Smith series to concentrate more on the Chris Waters' personality. It's different, with a little more somber feeling, as no one can be as funny as D.C. You will not be disappointed.
