A Giggle on the Way to Work
Revisado: 07-04-12
Would you listen to The Lost Art of Gratitude again? Why?
I would certainly listen again...because Alexander has a way of making me giggle on the way to work. I take delight in his subtle humour and understated seriousness of thought.

A dynamic remastering of the original BBC Radio 4 full-cast serial - Fit the First to Fit the Sixth - which spawned a phenomenal hitchhiking legend. The original series of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, remastered by Dirk Maggs (director of the Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential Phases) to give a full, vibrant sound, now with Philip Pope’s version of the familiar theme tune and specially re-recorded announcements by John Marsh.

Re-visit
Revisado: 04-07-12
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to be better than the print version?
It's old. It's still funny. It's Douglas. The only thing that would have made this recording better would have been Alan Rickman as the Robot (which he was in the TV version!). Introduced my nephew (11 yrs) to Douglas with this recording and he loved it.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The characterisations are great. Film runs the risk of ruining your own imagined cahracters after reading the book. But audio is quite safe.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Read the book first

Historia
Between iPods, music-blasting restaurants, earsplitting sports stadiums, and endless air and road traffic, the place for quiet in our lives grows smaller by the day. In Pursuit of Silence gives contextto our increasingly desperatesense that noise pollution is, in a very real way, an environmental catastrophe.

Interesting book.
Why does a search for silence so often mean an investigation of noise?
Touched on topics I had never heard of before.

Even without the visual, this play still comes alive in this audio version. Who would have thought it... the voices of Mr Dursley and Wallace in the same play!? The actors are brilliant and gave me an introduction to A Midsummer's that will lead to further study. Thanks

Historia
A definitive, deeply moving narrative, Bonhoeffer is a story of moral courage in the face of the monstrous evil that was Nazism. After discovering the fire of true faith in a Harlem church, Bonhoeffer returned to Germany and became one of the first to speak out against Hitler. As a double agent, he joined the plot to assassinate the Führer and was hanged in Flossenbürg concentration camp at age thirty-nine. Since his death, Bonhoeffer has grown to be one of the most fascinating, complex figures of the twentieth century.

Anyone with an interest in WW2, or in theology, or in church history, or in inspiring personalities, should read this book. The reader does a great job of representing the various characters using small changes in tone and accent. Well Done.
