Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Wonderful story
Revisado: 12-06-23
Classic King: he tells a good tale full of darkness and light. Couldn’t watch it as a movie, but is fine in print.

Takes a bit to get going
Revisado: 09-28-23
The story takes a little bit before it really takes off. Millie Bobby Brown does a good job narrating. If it weren’t a family story, it would be just a bit sappy, but it’s profound knowing it’s true.

Quite good
Revisado: 08-25-23
It runs the regular gamut of period pieces from the time of King Arthur, but it’s good. Don’t let the beginning harshness between the genders. Turn you off as that is not prevalent throughout the rest of the book.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Super creative
Revisado: 07-29-23
This starts one way and does a super creative jog. You’ll laugh out loud, especially if you’re over 40, but probably even if not. It slows a little near the end. Enjoy!

Historia
No running water, no car, no electricity or any of the things it powers: the internet, phone, washing machine, radio, or light bulb. Just a wooden cabin, on a smallholding, by the edge of a stand of spruce. The Way Home is a modern-day Walden - an honest and lyrical account of a remarkable life lived in nature without modern technology. Mark Boyle, author of The Moneyless Man, explores the hard-won joys of building a home with his bare hands, learning to make fire, collecting water from the stream, foraging, and fishing.

Great book.
Revisado: 07-11-23
Written by a man, who decided he wanted to live differently than the rest of our culture. He was not judging, but simply made the decision for himself. These are his reflections. If that way of life has any appeal to you, I think the book will appeal to you as well.

Historia
History knows them as King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Empress Elizabeth of Austria, icons of the late nineteenth century who died young and left behind magnificent portraits and palaces. But to each other they were Ludwig and Sisi, cousins who shared a passion for beauty and a stubborn refusal to submit to the roles imposed upon them.

Historia
When Desert Solitaire was first published in 1968, it became the focus of a nationwide cult. Rude and sensitive. Thought-provoking and mystical. Angry and loving. Both Abbey and this book are all of these and more. Here, the legendary author of The Monkey Wrench Gang, Abbey's Road and many other critically acclaimed books vividly captures the essence of his life during three seasons as a park ranger in southeastern Utah.

Wonderful!!
Revisado: 04-29-23
yes, Edward abbey has plenty of flaws. Particularly his treatment of women, but that said, as a treatise on the environment, American culture, and how we treat even our most treasured landmarks,
this is a wonderful and irreplaceable book.
