You can't understand half of what the narrator says due to the mumbling. Random, excessively long pauses, no variation between characters- really ruined the book

Why are the authors so mean?

I really enjoyed this book and have read it several times. It wasn't until I listened to it that I realized how mean the author is. They regularly call characters fat (in fact one is named fatty) makes fun of a girl for being overweight, calls Ethan an idiot several times, called the girls derogatory names (skank) and is just downright mean. I enjoyed the story but wow are they awful to the characters
