Good story, flat characters
Revisado: 03-12-25
The story was engaging and moved along at a good pace. I would have liked to see more growth from the characters. None of them seemed to learn any lessons or to change for the better because of their experiences. They pretty much ended where they started.

What a fantastic and satisfying end to a great series! It was so well written, and the author does an excellent job in moving the narrative forward like so many threads of a tapestry growing together to create a beautiful story.

Fantastic read
Revisado: 09-04-24
This book has a gripping story line that kept me interested all the way to the end. It has unexpected twists and turns that keep it from being boring or predictable. It was well acted and is extremely well written. I wish I could find more books like this to read. Exciting, clean, funny, endearing, just a touch of romance, and very heart warming.

Extremely disappointed
Revisado: 03-19-21
This may be the worst writing I have yet encountered in my many years as an Audible member. The main character is not at all likeable, and although she is whining about the men in this city seeing women as brainless objects of pleasure, she's doing the exact same thing to the captain with his "rippling muscles" and "shapely butt". Give me a break! Just as there is more to any woman than her breast size and the shape of her body, there is also more to any man than his bulging muscles. I picked this up because I was looking for a strong female character (who had more to her than just her looks) and instead I got the beastly, arrogant, double standard of feminism mixed with a porn novel. Needless to say I didn't finish this one. I couldn't get through more than the first few chapters.

Historia
Ragan Sutterfield brings us back to a biblical perspective - a freeing, corrective viewpoint that reminds us of the connection between spirit, mind, and body. Along the way, he shares his journey from overweight addict to Ironman competitor. He counts his success, though, not in his decreased clothing size but in his increased understanding of how much God truly loves us and of what it means to be stewards - not just of our souls but of our skin and bones too.

Too much preaching and too little Ironman.
Revisado: 06-20-17
Disappointed. Grew tired very quickly of listening to long, in-depth descriptions of the author's childhood exposure to sexuality from his church and wondering when something useful or interesting was going to be addressed or discussed. Was easily 2 hours in before I found anything along the lines of what I expected to hear based on the title of the book. A better title might have been: Sex, drugs, and Ironman: Memoirs from an Evangelical fat kid.

Great book but ...
Revisado: 05-29-15
Really great information in this book. The only turn off was when he started trying to address the "What's the purpose of life?" question. He should have just stayed away from that one. Otherwise, great book. Really gets the wheels in my head turning.

A professor shows a colleague a painting that he has kept secret for decades. The professor swears it is a Vermeer - but why has he hidden this important work for so long? The reasons unfold in a series of stories that trace ownership of the painting back to World War II and Amsterdam, and still further back to the moment of the work's inspiration.

NOT FOR KIDS OR YOUNG ADULTS!!!
Revisado: 11-21-09
This book is listed in the Audible kids section, so you can imagine my shock when two of the short stories included very graphic, adult sex scenes, one very short but one that is long and detailed. This is completely inappropriate for kids and for any adult who is not interested in reading or listening to such things (one would assume a children's/young adult novel would be free from such things). I'm extremely disappointed that this author felt it necessary to include such a thing in a book about a painting. I will never read another work by Susan Vreeland. And I'm disappointed that Audible chose to list this in the Audible kids section. I would have hoped that they would choose to use a bit more discretion.
