Historia
Fourteen-year-old Ozzy lives near Portland, Oregon, and is desperate for help. His scientist parents have been kidnapped after discovering a formula that enables mind control. Their work was so top secret that Ozzy is afraid to go to the police, but without help, he fears he'll never find his parents. Then he stumbles across a classified ad in the local newspaper that says "Wizard for Hire. Call 555-SPEL." Ozzy has read about wizards in books like Harry Potter, but wizards couldn't exist today, could they? After Ozzy meets the wizard Labyrinth - a.k.a. Rin - he's even more skeptical.

Unexpectedly good. Should be a movie...
Revisado: 12-07-24
I started to listen to this and immediately disliked it, something about the narration or the way it was written put me off, but after the slow start things started to pick up once Ryn was introduced. Amazing is too short a word to describe this original story concept. Someone needs to make it into a movie... don't change anything, don't try to give it your own spin, just change it into script format, act it, tape it, and ship it! In a time where idiots are trying to do remakes; HERE is an original thing.

Historia
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Pride comes before the fall...
Revisado: 11-24-24
My whole life I have witnessed friends, family, and the famous really make some boneheaded decisions based on pride. I've seen the consequences, and they largely tend to not be positive. This book puts words into the feelings or thoughts about how I feel about people's pride and priorities. Additionally it adds insight into other aspects of life where pride (or ego) is the enemy. Very thoughtful and well written. Thank you!

Historia
When CEOs think about the supply chain, it's usually to cut costs. But the smartest leaders see supply chain and sourcing for what they can be: hidden tools for outperforming the competition. Steve Jobs, upon returning to Apple in 1997, focused on transforming the supply chain. He hired Tim Cook - and the company sped up the development of new products, getting them into consumers' hands faster. The rest is history.

It was ok...
Revisado: 09-24-24
Take my opinion lightly. This was a book I picked up to learn a little more about logistics, some of the challenges one can face in it, and highlights of recent successes. This book did just that. Maybe it was because I was unfamiliar or unpassionate about the subject, but it was definitely boring to me. As far as the reader, he was understable and very concise, but something about his Attenborough voice just didn't seem to jive with this book. Overall not bad.

For six years, journalist Patricia Evangelista documented killings carried out by police and vigilantes in the name of then president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs—a crusade that led to the slaughter of thousands—immersing herself in the world of killers and survivors and capturing the atmosphere of terror created when an elected president decides that some lives are worth less than others.

and the moral quandrum that one must face in its execution. As I have listened to this book I've looked up YouTube articles about Duterte and the Philippines. People there still largely love the man for what he did. It's crazy to think that over reach and abuse of power is still more tolerable than the rot and decay drug and drug dealers bring to a society.

Historia
Can literature change our real world society? At its foundation, utopian and dystopian fiction asks a few seemingly simple questions aimed at doing just that. Who are we as a society? Who do we want to be? Who are we afraid we might become? When these questions are framed in the speculative versions of Heaven and Hell on earth, you won't find easy answers, but you will find tremendously insightful and often entertaining perspectives.

Felt like sexual studies in Utopian models...
Revisado: 06-16-24
Some times... some times it felt that way. I think more important themes could have been discussed in the Utopian-Dystopian models, but other than that this course serves as a great introduction to the topic. The author and speaker did an overall great job.

Revisado: 05-29-24
So far I have been enjoying the Expeditionary Force series. The story is seems fresh and I often wonder how it would easily adapt to a TV series. Then I realize that it would just get messed up by producers trying to give it their own spin. At times Skippy's attitude does get grating, but a measly AI can only do as it is programmed to do...

Crescendo of a Sci-Fi Opera Epic
Revisado: 03-13-24
An excellent story similar to Hunger Games. At first I loved the Irish accent of the narrator as I thought it was pretty awesome of the first culture introduced, and nothing cooler than the feeling of fantasy dwarfs miners in space. But as you get introduced to the different castes you realize now you are stuck listening to it the whole time. Started slow, but builds over time until you can't wait to listen to more. Highly recommend!

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

A book about passion, crime, and penance!
Revisado: 02-28-24
Such a great book. The movies don't do it justice. I've known about Frankenstein for a long time and finally got around to going over Mary Shelley's book. It amazes me how similar this is to Moby Dick in that every word written makes the scene and feelings incredibly vivid and painful. Something that just can't be captured in even the best adaptations. The narrator did an amazing job conveying feelings through inflection of his voice. Highly recommend.

The contents of this book can probably be found in many other publications (and the author says so himself). Where this class shines is that I breaks things down for easy listening and gets you interested in why YOU want financial freedom.
