Refreshing & Fun

Oh man, I flew through this book so fast!! I found myself audibly laughing multiple times. This is so genuinely enjoyable that it takes a stab at the general take on YA monster romance. It doesn't take itself too seriously, while paving the way for a fresh take on a more grounded & realistic heroine. Can't wait for the next installments!!

Don't Waste Your Money

This "vampire" is just a sexual predator. Plain & simple. I cannot fathom the justification for the positive reviews. I have never read something so frustrating. It reminds me of god awful b-flick horror movies that parade "horror" in the form of shock; rape, racism, antisemitism, pedophilia, & consistent gaslighting from so called "friends & family".
The concept of this story really had potential. The title alone sparks the idea of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the deep south with the promise of sisterhood & a book club. If this is what you think this book is, it's not! It's awful, I wish I could get my money back.

I've read the books before & wanted to revisit after learning Songbirds is getting a film. I no longer have copies of the books & hesitated on audio because some narrators can be very dull & disconnecting.
NOT with Maslany. Quite the opposite! Her tone & inflection is staggering. I was engaged from start to finish & look forward to hearing the other 2 books in the series which she narrates.
