I Really Enjoyed “The Blacksmith: The Tragedy of Joe Turner”
Revisado: 02-15-25
I enjoyed the book, “The Blacksmith: The Tragedy of Joe Turner. Joe, the main character of the story was a black World War I military veteran and blacksmith living in a small town during “The Great Depression.” He finds peace working with metal in his skill profession. Joe attempted to use his work as a coping mechanism to quiet down what people referred to back then as “shell shock.” A familiar face from years ago just shows up at his place, leaving Joe suspicious. This person brought up Joe’s haunting and dark past, which Joe fought to put behind him. Why did this man just show up out of nowhere? What did he want from Joe? Was he a friend, or an enemy? Without given away the story I must say that I felt Joe’s determination, psychological struggles, fear, anger, pain, loneliness, and disheartenment. The ending was shockingly unexpected. Rowan Duncan, the author, beautifully provided a very descriptive image of a man fighting in a war against his past demons. Glynn Holmes, the narrator brought the characters to life, allowing me to visualize Joe’s day to day mental struggles and how he attempted to cope with them. I am waiting for more books from the author Rowan Duncan and the narrator Glynn Holmes. This is exceptional work!

Historia
It is a favorite pastime in Southern Louisiana taverns to speak of the Dread Pirate LaBelle and his cursed treasure. In hushed tones and careful whispers, drunken storytellers regale the interested with descriptions of a sinking ship and LaBelle’s cursed treasures lost among the marshes. For Trevor, these stories are more than just rumors. Trevor thinks that he’s tracked down the map to LaBelle’s final resting place, and a guide who is brazen enough to take them there.

Really Enjoyed Dead Men’s Chest!
Revisado: 02-09-25
Five childhood friends go on one of their last adventurous trips together before settling in to adulthood life. However, this last trip they take together will be one they would never forget, or I should say, the trip they will regret taking.
I felt a mixture of “The Goonies” “The Mummy” & “The Ghost Ship,” vibes however, “Dead Men’s Chest” was ten times better! The friends demonstrated courage and weakness during their nightmarish crisis. The book seems to be opened for a part two.
The author, William Sterling, beautifully put together this “sitting on the edge of my seat “ & nightmarish masterpiece. The narrator, Glynn Holmes, naturally brought these characters to life, with distinguishing personalities. I felt the characters’ excitement, terror, pain, and regrets. I am looking forward to seeing more exceptional books from William Sterling and more exceptional narrating from Glynn Holmes.

The Fortunes of Blues and Blessing unfolds as a sweeping historical saga that illuminates the journey of an extraordinary black family in America. Spanning over a century and five generations, this captivating novel takes root in 1849, tracing the family's roots from Sierra Leone to the rice plantations of Georgia. At the heart of this gripping tale is Hercules, a young African enslaved and renamed upon arrival in Charleston. His bond with Rachel, a fellow captive, forms the foundation of a remarkable legacy.

Enjoyed This Book! Outstanding!
Revisado: 01-19-25
I really enjoyed listening to The Fortunes of Blues and Blessings. This book is a depiction of the lives of three generations of African-American families, working hard to provide a better life for their generation. The author beautifully unfold their lives during the Pre and Post-Civil War Era. I had mix emotions throughout the book. The story made me smile during celebratory events, and sad when one of the characters in the book did not realize how blessed they were. There were some scenes in the book where I was completely shocked at the outcome. The ending was a jaw dropper! This book consisted of love, joy, lust, deaths, scandals, music, blues, and blessings. The author, Karen Sloan-Brown, did a magnificent job. I am looking forward to part two, or her next new book. Also, the narrator, Glynn Holmes, did an outstanding job of bringing the characters to life. Can’t wait to hear more from him.

I just could not stop listening to “A Certain Four.” I enjoyed how the author carefully revealed the characters’ strengths, struggles, and special abilities within the story. I also appreciated and enjoyed how the narrator brought each character to life. The ending opens the door to a part two.
