Historia
In this book, dedicated by its author to the "Youth of the Land", is the inspiring story of Martin Luther, who was born to poverty in 1483, who was beaten in school on a regular basis, but who rose above his circumstances to change the course of history.

This book is useless as a work of historical research. The extreme one-sided nature of this piece of propaganda is risible and disgusting. The language level is clearly for that of a child of about six, and the scholarly value is nil. The obvious hatred for the dominant religion of the time is vitriolic. I can't see this as anything more than doggerel meant to make Protestantism seem like it's so glorious in comparison to the medieval Roman Catholic church. I deleted this from my library and never plan on recommending it to anyone who has an ounce of sense. I don't belong to a religion, but listening to this makes me embarrassed for people who think that this sort of lackluster nonsense has any spiritual value.

Historia
There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk, and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires, and monsters, and they walk among us. These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living among society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community.

Needs improvement
Revisado: 07-22-20
This would be better in print because then the tabular format would make a quick glance over long lists of names easier without having to hear all of them repeated. I was surprised at how few serial killers of the past were included with many more modern ones listed who had far fewer crimes than many in the past. I was especially surprised at the lack of information on H.H. Holmes, and it felt like some of the entries were incomplete. I wasn't even sure I'd have included some of the killers in this list because they seemed more like spree killers or mob killers than deranged serial killers. Also, the mispronunciation of locations, names, and jargon was jarring and hard to ignore. I did make it all the way through though, so there's that.

Historia
Traditionally, Americans learned in school that the ancestors of the people who inhabited the Western Hemisphere at the time of Columbus' landing had crossed the Bering Strait 12,000 years ago; existed mainly in small nomadic bands; and lived so lightly on the land that the Americas were, for all practical purposes, still a vast wilderness. But as Charles C. Mann now makes clear, archaeologists and anthropologists have spent the last 30 years proving these and many other long-held assumptions wrong.

Loved it!

I've always known deep down that there just had to be so much more to the story of the Americas prior to the colonization by Europe. This was a fascinating mix of archaeology, geography, botany, anthropology, and ecology that really should be incorporated into history and science classrooms.

A very good overview
Revisado: 04-08-19
I rather enjoyed this. As an American, there's a lot about the current royal family of Great Britain, etc. that I don't know. This book really helped me to understand all of the family members and how they're connected.
