Historia
The town of Ankh-Morpork is in big trouble and the City Watch is desperate for a few good men to protect it. But all they've got are the dwarves Corporal Carrot and Lance-constable Cuddy, the troll Lance-constable Detritus, Lance-constable Angua, who is believed to be a woman and, worst of all, Corporal Nobbs, who has been disqualified from the human race for shoving! These underdogs need all the help they can get, for they've been given only 24 hours to clean up the war-torn town.

Delicious, Clever Fantasy
Revisado: 01-23-23
This book was excellent fun. Terry Pratchett delivers clever, sardonic humor and a rich setting. Delightful characters are well voiced by Nigel Planer. There are a few bawdy references, but I could listen to it with my 13 yo daughter without wincing.

Series starts strong and only gets better

My favorite thus far of the Wing Feather books! Satisfying on many levels!
Initially, I was sorry that author’s lack of British accent—but it is a special thing to hear an author read his own work. The quality of the story is such that you don’t spend long hankering after the old narrator.

Historia
Based in part on Dickens's own life, it is the story of a young man's journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among its gloriously vivid cast of characters, he e.ncounters his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; the frivolous, enchanting Dora; and one of literature's great comic creations, the magnificently impecunious Mr. Micawber.

As good as it gets
Revisado: 09-13-16
This was a masterpiece. I only wish that I had heard this recording during my teens.
David Copperfield is an emotional education. Chalk full of admirable characters, during the course of this epic novel, you see the results of their virtues and their mistakes. The results are edifying and entertaining.
Simon Vance is an incredible performer, with an excellent knack for differentiating the voices of he characters. It is particularly impressive that he is able to produce such a range of female voices.
At 30+ hours this recording is quite the commitment, but it remains engaging throughout and is well worth the time.

Great, but could use more tests for son-singing
Revisado: 08-05-16
I love ND Wilson's work --especially his reverence for family. I love that belief in the redemption of mankind and the presence of a benevolent Creator Is the warp of his tales. In this series he makes great use of his knowledge of history and mythology to create a vivid and intriguing cast of characters.
My only gripe is that the action is relentless. He has created such a rich world, but we are rarely allowed to bask in its riches. There are so many actions sequences! And the characters take a lot of physical punishment-- more than seems reasonable. I realize that the target audience is tween-aged boys. But I would have loved to have heard more backstories!

Fantasy as it should be
Revisado: 05-16-16
N.D. Wilson follows in the tradition of C.S Lewis. This story had excellent driving mysteries and highly like able characters. The writing style is vivid and energetic. It is the kind of fantasy literature that leaves you with a greater appreciation for reality.
The performance is excellent, and musical transitions are well deployed.
There are some scary scenes. My seven year old enjoyed listening to select (non-scary) parts of the story, but my guess is that she won't be ready for the full story for a few years yet. I definitely recommend this to adults who are looking for an good story and want to avoid the escapism (especially sexual escapism and preoccupation) common in adult fantasy.
