Historia
1 Dead in Attic is a collection of stories by Times-Picayune columnist Chris Rose, recounting the first harrowing year and a half of life in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Celebrated as a local treasure and heaped with national praise, Rose provides a rollercoaster ride of observation, commentary, emotion, tragedy, and even humor - in a way that only he could find in a devastated wasteland. They are stories of the dead and the living, stories of survivors and believers, stories of hope and despair.

Issues with narration
Revisado: 06-29-24
I listen to audiobooks often and am surprised that apparently no one edits the books for pronunciation. The frequent mispronunciation of place names in this narration are distracting and irritating. It only takes seconds to Google the proper pronunciation.

Historia
It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Extraordinary!
Revisado: 06-18-24
Memoirs are my favorite genre, particularly when read by the author. Billy Porter's "Unprotected" is the best memoir I've heard in years. It is compelling, thought-provoking, raw, funny, gut-wrenching, eliciting every emotion possible. Outstanding!

Historia
Growing up, Stacey Patton had very little sense of personal identity while living in the foster-care system. When she was adopted by a God-fearing and hard-working couple, she finally felt like she had a place in the world. But her life quickly descended into a nightmare when her new mother became increasingly domineering while her new father often acquiesced to his wife's blistering demands.

When President Clay Dixon's father-in-law - a former vice president - is injured in a farming accident, First Lady Kate Dixon returns to Minnesota to be at his side. Assigned to protect her, Secret Service agent Bo Thorsen soon falls under Kate's spell. He also suspects the accident is part of a trap set for Kate by David Moses, an escaped mental patient who once loved her. What Bo and Moses don't realize is that they're caught in a web of deadly intrigue spun by a seemingly insignificant bureaucratic department within the federal government.

Not That Good
Revisado: 05-30-24
I am a big fan of WKK but did not enjoy this book. The lyrical language from his other books is missing. If not for a few minor references to locations from the Cork O'Connor series, I would not have known he was the author. The narrator was not engaging and the story was predictable.

Historia
When Dr. David Kirkpatrick's wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2007, their lives - and their marriage - would change forever. In an honest, uplifting, and sometimes heartbreaking account of loving a partner with dementia, Dr. Kirkpatrick creates a clear guide for others in similar circumstances. He shares his perspective both as a loving and grief-stricken husband coping with a profound change in his marriage, and as a geriatric psychiatrist doing everything he can for his wife while continually learning throughout that experience.
