The Black Farm is my first book by Elias Witherow, and I look forward to more. With a mind like this, there is no way I can stay away. I went the audiobook route while I was in bed with covid.

After a slew of unfortunate events and the loss of a child, Nick and Jess decide to end their lives instead of dealing with the endless misery that seemed to plague them lately. Together in peace. That was the plan, but when Nick wakes up and realizes that there is no peace given to those who unalive themselves. Nick finds himself in a hellscape, a nightmare. His only thoughts are to survive and to find Jess.

I love this idea of an unending limbo of pain and torture for those who seek to end their lives. If you die here, for whatever reason, you are reborn, only to have to try and survive again and again. The twisted, insane abominations that rule this realm are terrifying. Pig born. It’s nightmare fuel, for sure. I see there is a book two that I will have to check out after a get through a few others I have planned to read already.

The narration was pretty awesome. Tom Jordan has a pleasing voice and did a great job breathing life into these tortured souls.

The Wrong Heart, written by Jennifer Hartmann, is an angst-filled contemporary romance that deals with heavy themes, such as the loss of a loved one and self-harm/suicide.

The book is a dual POV that follows the FMC of Melody, who just experienced a significant loss; her husband, Charlie, died in a horrible hit-and-run. Charlie was an organ donor, and his heart was given to an unknown person. Desperate, Melody reaches out to get information on the recipient of the heart, only to be given an email address. Parker, the MMC, is the owner of the email address.

This story is deep, and the emotions in this book are raw and heavy. You could feel Melody’s loss and pain. I wanted nothing more than to find her comfort. Parker’s story - wow. His tragic childhood damaged him on so many different levels. The book is an emotional roller coaster that barely gives you a moment to breathe before something else gut-wrenching happens.

The narration was done very well, and you could feel the angst, pain, relief, and love.

Holy spicy audiobook! Whew! Unfurl introduced me to author Elodie Hart, and I am absolutely hooked on this series! As usual, I chose the audiobook version and am so happy I did. I am weak in the knees for a fantastic accent, and this one delivers.

Unfurl is a super steamy age-gap contemporary romance. The book follows Belle, a beautiful posh virgin, and her neighbor, the very sexy Rafe. Rafe is part owner of Alchemy, an elite sex club with a program to remove the innocence that Belle has held onto. To unfurl the desires she has denied herself.

The narration is top-notch and kept me enthralled the entire time. Kylie and Will are amazing narrators. I can’t wait to dive into and read the rest of the series.

Little Stranger, written by Leigh Rivers, is book one of The Web of Silence Duet. This is my first book by this author, so I was unsure what to expect. I’ve read a few reviews, and of course, if it’s taboo, I’m here for it! I decided to go down the audiobook route because I was driving a few hours to visit family, and it was perfect timing!

Oh, Olivia and Malachi. The way that my dirty little taboo heart was all a flutter. Olivia and Malachi are foster siblings brought together by traumatic pasts. Malachi, refusing to speak, spoke using ASL. At first sight, Malchi claimed Olivia as HIS and became fiercely protective of her, and might I add, obsessed!

Their parents are beyond effed up. Mother, obsessed with social ladder climbing, basically pimps out Olivia to find her a wealthy, powerful husband with complete and utter disregard for her feelings. Always the perfect child, Olivia does what her mother wishes while hiding her attraction and desire to get closer to her brother Malachi.

Let's face it, the storyline was rough, and the plot was rocky. I strictly read this book for the taboo aspect, and it did NOT disappoint. It was just sooo… naughty! The dirt talk and spice had me clutching my pearls. I could not get enough. It was so addictive.

Joe Arden, problematic or not, is still one of my favorite male narrators. The way he can give me goosebumps with a whisper.. Whew! I had the volume turned up so high while racing down the highway doing 85! I can’t wait to listen to book two.

K.M. Moronova’s The Fabric of Our Souls was my first book by this author. It was gifted to me in a book exchange, and I fell in love with the cover art. Because of my overwhelming TBR, I decided to purchase the audiobook to listen to while working. I am a big fan of books that deal with mental health and treatment facilities, but I can be very critical because of the time I’ve spent there for my own mental health problems.

In this book, we follow Wynn Coldfox after a failed suicide attempt. Trying to get her the help that she needs, her brother places her in a treatment facility that is a bit non-traditional. They are allowed many freedoms, not to mention co-ed sleeping quarters. I just had to shake my head. None of this would have been allowed in a traditional treatment center, but this is fiction.

This book is filled with heartbreaking and tragic moments. These damaged souls screamed to be loved and find the connections they desperately sought. This is not your typical love story, that’s for sure… it’s so much more.

Play Along, by Liz Tomforde, is book four in the fantastic Windy City series. I can not express how much I have loved this series. Liz knows how to create some hilarious characters that you will fall in love with. This one was freakin funny from the start. I live, laugh, loved this book!!

This book focuses on the FMC of Kennedy, one of the Windy City Warriors team doctors, and Isaiah Rhodes, one of the team’s shortstop and faithful devotees of Kennedy! Lol. Isaiah has had the hots for Kennedy since the moment he saw her, but this playboy gave up his ways just to focus on her! When the two happen to be in the same place at the same time, a drunken marriage takes place.

OMG. When I say this book is hilarious, that is an understatement. The banter between Isaiah and Kennedy is fantastic. Their quick wit and determination not to let others know their true feelings had me belly-laughing. While the chemistry was there instantly for Isaiah, it took a while for him to gain Kennedy’s trust. Yes, the book was quite funny, but it did have a serious undertone when it came to Kennedy’s family and ex. It hurt my heart to see what she had to go through, but she couldn’t have asked for a better guy to help heal her heart.

The narrators… *chefs kiss* I absolutely love Samantha Brentmoor. The two of them were terrific together. They worked perfectly off each other, and their timing was perfect. I’m reading another book (Leather and Lark) with Samantha, and I instantly knew it was her voice. I am unsure if just reading the book would have given me the same experience.

I can’t wait for RIO’s book!!

Leather & Lark is book two in Bryanne Weaver's The Ruinous Love Trilogy. Riding the huge high from Butcher and Blackbird, I had high hopes for this book and the narration. This one just didn’t do it for me like the first one did, but it was entertaining.

This dual-POV book follows Lachlan Kane, a contract killer and leather worker, and Lark Montague, a songbird serial deleter. It uses the marriage of convenience trope, which I have really enjoyed lately.

Oh, Lachlan Kane. This Irish brute could call me a feckin catastrophe any day, and I would swoon. Where can I order me one?? I mean, I can also relate to his turn-ons of music and butt stuff! When he falls for you, he falls hard.

Lark, my beautiful siren. I snorted every time she referred to herself as a multiple deleter. I found it hilarious that she can delete someone but can’t scoop out an eyeball. Her refusal to be called by her maiden name and her only going by Lark Kane was excellent.

The book was slow for me, and it was missing something. It wasn’t until the end of the book that it got really good. The spice was decent but not jaw-dropping (until the end). I look forward to the next book.

Samantha Brentmore and Eric Nolan did a fantastic job. I adore Samantha. They are the reason I enjoyed the book as much as I did. That accent did things to me! Whew.

Pulling Strings is book 1 of Quinn Cameron's Marionette series. This is my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. I enjoyed the writing style and colorful characters. The book is narrated by L. Connor McGeverly.

Book one follows Fitch Farrow, a telekinetic witch in the Bloody Hex gang. Fitch, aka Marionette, has made a name for himself because of the 30 kills he has under his belt. He never wanted to be a killer, but he’s one of the best at it. When his younger brother, who is human, is brought into the gang, Fitch chooses incarceration to keep his brother safe. The book is set in a modern urban setting, in a city. Humans and witches live together but aren’t exactly on great terms.

Fitch is hilariously snarky and pulled more than one chuckle from me. I loved how colorful the Bloody Hex members were and their different abilities. Knowing that Fitch is working for the very gang that ended his parents shows you just how powerful they are. I am very interested in knowing what Fitch’s next move is.

It took me a little bit to find my groove with the story. At times, it felt a little slow as it built up momentum. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the narration. It sounded like he was just reading words from a page and not playing a role. It was frustrating and distracting from the book itself. It wasn’t until I was halfway in that I got used to it and could listen to more than half an hour at a time. He was able to provide different “voices” for the various characters, and I enjoyed the variety.

Written by Elsie Silver, Reckless is book 4 in the Chestnut Springs series. I randomly picked a book from the standalone interconnected series to read first. I have no clue why I didn’t start with the first book. At least, I think they are interconnected since they are all from the same town. LOL.

This dual POV book follows Theo, a sexy bull rider, and Winter, a soon-to-be-divorced doctor. Winter is so misunderstood. People mislabel her as cold or bitchy because she is strong, independent, and used to taking care of herself. She is very relatable and realistic. Theo is a huge flirt and a very talented bull rider in the rodeo circuit. When the two have a chance encounter and a very intense night, they never expect to see each other again. So they thought. A broken condom brings the two together again.

This is one of my least-liked tropes, but this one was done really well. Accidental pregnancy is usually a pass for me, but I committed to it, so I was all in. I loved that Theo was all in before he even knew about Vivi. Theo is so supportive of Winter from the moment he meets her. She needed that type of support in her life but did not accept it right away. I love the family they create with lil Peter and Vivi. The chemistry between them is perfect, and the spice is perfect.

The narration is fantastic. Joe and Savannah do a great job of breathing life into these characters and the supporting cast.

Caught Up, written by Liz Tomforde, is book three in the Windy City series. I absolutely love this series. There isn’t a book I haven't loved. This book grabbed ahold of my heart and squeeeeeeezed it tight.

Kai. Whew. Kai Rhodes is the star pitcher for Chicago’s MLB team and also a single dad. Worn thin rarely asking for help, Kai is determined to take care of his son Max alone, even if it means quitting the sport he loves so much. As much as he needs the help, nannies do not last past the two-week mark, putting even more stress on this handsome dad. Monty, the head coach, puts his foot down and makes the decision to hire a nanny for the summer, whether he likes it or not.

Miller, a high-end pastry chef who has won many accolades, is starting to feel a major case of burnout and losing her love for the very thing that has raised her to stardom in her field. She is struggling to find new and fresh ideas before her upcoming Wine and Food Magazine feature. She decided to take a two-month break to work on new receipts and to find her passion for desserts again when her dad Monty approached her with an offer.

When Miller agrees to be Kai’s nanny for two months, she never expects emotions to be involved. She doesn’t have time for friendships or even relationships in her fast-paced world. She has always preferred the no-strings-attached approach. Kai, struggling with trust and the ability to ask for help, reluctantly allows this tattooed free spirit to watch his son. The chemistry between the two is off the charts, but each of them refuses to let attraction distract them from what matters most.

The book is a dual POV that features dual narrators. They did an absolutely fantastic job with these characters. I have owned the book for a while, but I just had to listen to the audiobook like I did with the last two.

This book was hilarious, and I loved that we got to revisit characters from the first two books that made up this found family. We also met some new characters to add to this menagerie of characters. We also saw the continuation of storylines from characters in the other books. This book had me in a chokehold and squeezed my heart nonstop. The end had me bawling and pleading for a HEA. I highly recommend this series.
