Historia
This exciting collection presents two previously unpublished stories by SF legend Octavia E. Butler. A Necessary Being precedes the events of Survivor, Butler's third (famously disowned) installment in her Patternist series, and includes characters from it, focusing exclusively on the Kohn, aliens who build their social hierarchies on the blueness of their fur. In Childfinder, a black woman with the gift of identifying children with latent psychic ability refuses to share her skill with an organization of white telepaths.

emotional turmoil while duty bound
Revisado: 02-06-25
Butler writing talent shows as she navigates the complexity of emotions of the main characters forced bound duty in the 1st short story. The second story was a little too short for me to get a good sense of the characters and story. overall enjoyed the unexpected stories.

Historia
Anwuli Okwudili prefers to be called AO. To her, these initials have always stood for Artificial Organism. AO has never really felt...natural, and that's putting it lightly. Her parents spent most of the days before she was born praying for her peaceful passing because even in-utero she was "wrong". But she lived. Then came the car accident years later that disabled her even further. Yet instead of viewing her strange body the way the world views it, as freakish, unnatural, even the work of the devil, AO embraces all that she is.

human spirit shines through the chaos
Revisado: 01-15-25
The main characters AO and DNA come from different backgrounds. But share a similar desire to remain true to self that often put them at odds with their communities. They bond over similar trauma and reluctantly set out on a journey of vindication and reconciliation.
I really enjoyed this story and would recommend to those wanting something different from the popular sci-fi stories.

Feel good holiday rom-com with content
Revisado: 12-10-24
Stimpson's checked the boxes for me in this wholesome holiday rom-com. I love how she creates a variety of characters and various real life situations that are very relatable. She doesn't shy away from the heavy emotional content of the main characters and supporting characters. I lived Kendrick's narration as he varied the tone, pace, and voice for the other characters. Jurnee's narration was okay, except her voices fir other characters sound similar and high pitched. overall I enjoyed this story.

Historia
Dr. Allison Hall is staring down the prospect of her first Christmas in a new town and her first without her son, who is spending the holiday with her ex. As the new doc on the block, she's on duty for the Christmas shift and glad of it. When one of her favorite patients lands back in the hospital, and it looks like this might be his last Christmas, she hopes she can help connect him to his estranged daughter. Dante Price thinks Allison should mind her own business. He's a nurse - and admittedly a bit of a Christmas Scrooge.

Life in the big city just wasn't her jam and now she's back in Hickory Falls, working at the family diner and helping her mom after she took a tumble. Lesley longs to build a life here, working at the cafe, selling her handmade ornaments and ... er, apparently reviving her high school crush on her best friend’s older brother. Only one problem, her mom wants her to leave Hickory Falls far behind.

Historia
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.
