Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city's ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

cozy fantasy
Revisado: 03-16-22
A wonderfully cozy fantasy. The author did a great job narrating, with individual voices for each character.

Historia
Investigator Sergeant Logan Farrell has never been convinced the human race deserves saving. But it looks like he’s got the job anyway. It’s been 500 years since we fled the remnants of a dying Earth in search of a new home. Twenty-four ships, each carrying 10,000 Chosen Ones. All sleeping peacefully...until people start dying in cryo. Malfunction or murder? Hopefully, the former - a serial killer in the fleet would be drastic for morale. But Logan is determined to find the truth. Unfortunately, he’s got a new partner - and he works best alone.

good characters, poor plot
Revisado: 01-02-22
While I liked the main characters, the plot was so full of holes as to be completely ridiculous. The heroine had been a homicide detective, but apparently didn't both using her brain to put together really obvious clues. For most of the book, the hero was too busy navel gazing to investigate. And those are only a couple of the problems. I knew who the villain was very early, just not the reason for the crimes. The book didn't get better, and science was really fantasy. Shooting bullets on a small shuttle in space? Just one example of the stupid actions that occurred. And what was the deal with the constant whiskey drinking?
The narrator was okay, but sometimes mixed up voices or didn't differentiate them well. There were a couple of places where it sounded like a few words had been inserted after the fact as the voices were suddenly different.

Over the top fun
Revisado: 11-13-16
This book was a surprise to me. While Ms Landor's narration was consistently excellent, the plot kept taking me by surprise. There is one event after another that made the story develop in fanciful yet possible ways.

A very good story with excellent narration
Revisado: 03-22-15
This middle grade fantasy has strong girl characters who learn to love and value education and use it to change and save their lives. Their are many positive themes with an engaging heroine who uses her brains, learns about herself, and about her value in the world around her.

2014 SFR Galaxy Award Winner Andi Markriss hasn't exactly enjoyed being the houseguest of the planetary high-lord, but her company sent her to represent them at a political wedding. When hotshot Sectors Special Forces Captain Tom Deverane barges in on the night of the biggest social event of the summer, Andi isn't about to offend her high-ranking host on Deverane's say-so - no matter how sexy he is, or how much he believes they need to leave now.

A light SFR adventure
Revisado: 03-13-15
I had enjoyed reading another book by this author, so looked forward to this one. The story has some fun adventure, real danger, and some romance. While some of the adventure was a bit out there, the romance didn't seem realistic. I can understand the characters meeting and having bells go off in their heads. But it wasn't that clear to them.
One review I read complained about Andi's interior dialogue. While I agree that it was excessive, and often obvious, it didn't bother me much. I think this is a place where the narration was weaker, though. While both narrators spoke clearly, there were many instances when the inflection was a bit off. The male narrator was better than the female, but both had little off moments.
On the positive, I liked both hero and heroine, and felt that both stayed in character. There were a couple of interesting supporting characters as well.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Great story, okay narrator
Revisado: 01-05-12
This is a great urban fantasy with a hero with a dry sense of humor and a hysterically funny dog. However, the narrator, while he does a decent job with accents, is not a good actor and does not have the depth of emotion in his voice.

Historia
Savor one of the most clever of Christie's suspenseful classics. An American businessman is stabbed to death aboard a luxury train, the Orient Express, snowbound in the middle of Europe. Nothing escapes the eagle eye and quick intelligence of the great Hercule Poirot, and clues abound. Sorting through a dozen perfectly respectable passengers, all suspects, Poirot is tenacious in his pursuit of the truth.

A classic narrated by a master
Revisado: 12-21-11
This story is one of Agatha Christie's most famous tales, and has been put on screen several times, including with this narrator as Hercule Poirot in 2010. David Suchet is my favorite actor for the role, and he does an excellent job with the other voices in the tale as well.

Love the book, don't care for the narration
Revisado: 11-18-11
I really enjoy this urban fantasy and have read the book more than once. While the story is about a very different family that happens to have unconventional sexual mores, it is not at all explicit. The narrator did accents fairly well, but read the book rather than narrating it. Her intonation was often flat and she emphasized the wrong words, often making it harder to understand the meaning. She also mispronounced a few words, which I would have forgiven if she had actually done more than a flat reading of the story. Towards the end she even mixed up the male and female voices for half of a conversation. A couple of times her accents carried over into the next person talking. While I love the story, the narration was a big disappointment.

Great Story, Mediocre Narrator
Revisado: 10-19-11
I really love this book and series, but miss Full-Cast Audio just as much. The narrator does make voices terribly, I had trouble telling characters apart, and the 10 year old heroine has a deeper voice than many of the male characters, even older ones. However, she does read pretty smoothly, and I didn't notice any pronunciation problems.

Great story and enjoyable narration
Revisado: 02-07-10
I have loved this tale since I was in school, and the narration is quite good. However, the story description is pretty inaccurate. It claims plot points that are completely wrong, and in some cases the opposite of the true story.
