Historia
Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?

Wonderful Story
Revisado: 07-28-22
This is one of the best audio books I have encountered. The story is fascinating and the narration is absolutely perfect. Although the main character is an artificial life form, it is a very human tale, with emotions and feelings fully explored. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

Historia
The hero of John Kennedy Toole's incomparable, Pultizer Prize–winning comic classic is one Ignatius J. Reilly, an obese, self-absorbed, hapless Don Quixote of the French Quarter, whose half-hearted attempts at employment lead to a series of wacky adventures among the lower denizens of New Orleans.

What a marvelous book! What a wonderful reading! For those who can stomach quirky characters - make that extremely quirky characters - this book is a highly entertaining adventure whose twists and turns are like a great roller coaster ride. The narration is just right, giving life to the New Orleans characters, idioms, and accents that reading alone would not give you. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was left with many fond memories to ponder when it was over.

A fascinating narrative, and a bold new thesis in the study of the Civil War, that suggests Robert E. Lee had a heretofore undiscovered strategy at Gettysburg that, if successful, could have crushed the Union forces and changed the outcome of the war.

Great Book
Revisado: 11-08-06
I've listened to several Civil War books including Shelby Foote's epic three volume series. This book presents a fresh perspective on Robert E. Lee and Gettysburg which complements the others admirably. Approached in a sober, scholarly way, the author makes his case very convincingly. This book is extremely interesting and well-researched. It takes the time to fill in all the necessary background information so that the conclusion makes perfect sense. The result is a much better understanding of Lee, his background and motivations, and the events which resulted in the turning point of the war.

Reaching for Glory lets us eavesdrop on LBJ's private, often tortured thoughts during the most crucial year of his presidency - when his dreams of being hailed as the equal of Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt were destroyed by the war in Vietnam. These original recordings, presented side by side with the stories behind them, offer unprecedented insight into the Johnson presidency.

Very Worthwhile
Revisado: 11-08-06
This is an incredibly intimate look into the life and mind of a U.S. president whose accomplishements are largly overshadowed by the difficult circumstances of the times. Never giving up his dream of the Great Society and striving mightily to acheive it, we see how the heavily the quagmire of Vietnam and civil unrest weighed on him. This audiobook provides a very worthwhile and easily missed perspective on the 60's.

Worthwhile
Revisado: 11-07-05
This is a moving story of an admirable character in the most horrifying circumstances imaginable. The fact that this diary exists at all is incredible and shows the determination of the author to get his story told. I found this to be a good complement to Shelby Foote's monumental three volume work which does not cover this aspect. It is worthwhile sticking with it to the end in spite of the continual unpleasantness of many parts.
