Historia
Calla Larkenwood wants nothing more than to be a guardian, but her overprotective mother has never allowed it. Battling fae creatures is too dangerous a job for a young girl, and there's that pesky magical ability she needs to keep hidden from the Guild. How can she do that if she's working right under their noses? When circumstances change and Calla finally gets to follow her dream, she discovers that guardian-trainee life isn't all she hoped it would be.

Historia
Today, astonishing surgical breakthroughs are making limb transplants, face transplants, and a host of other previously undreamed-of operations possible. But getting here has not been a simple story of medical progress. In Blood and Guts, veteran science writer Richard Hollingham weaves a compelling narrative from the key moments in surgical history. We have a ringside seat in the operating theater of University College Hospital in London as world-renowned Victorian surgeon Robert Liston performs a remarkable amputation in 30 seconds - from first cut to final stitch.

Historia
Schizophrenics in the United States currently fare worse than patients in the world’s poorest countries. In Mad in America, medical journalist Robert Whitaker argues that modern treatments for the severely mentally ill are just old medicine in new bottles, and that we as a society are deeply deluded about their efficacy. The widespread use of lobotomies in the 1920s and 1930s gave way in the 1950s to electroshock and a wave of new drugs.

Minimalism is the art of knowing how much is just enough. Digital minimalism applies this idea to our personal technology. It's the key to living a focused life in an increasingly noisy world. In this timely and enlightening book, the best-selling author of Deep Work introduces a philosophy for technology use that has already improved countless lives.

Overall good accept the last chapter
Revisado: 11-06-19
Overall I enjoyed this book. The last chapter gets very idealogical and the author could have left it out. The cult of intersectionality seems to saturate all spaces now, and it was a bummer to find it permeating a book on digital minimalism. The author is a professor though so it’s not a surprise he would reinforce his idealogical leanings.

Historia
For as long as Augusten Burroughs could remember, he knew things he shouldn't have known. He manifested things that shouldn't have come to pass. And he told exactly no one about this, save one person: his mother. His mother reassured him that it was all perfectly normal, that he was descended from a long line of witches, going back to the days of the early American colonies. And that this family tree was filled with witches. It was a bond that he and his mother shared - until the day she left him in the care of her psychiatrist to be raised in his family.

Sadly it seems that Augustan is wrapped up in the identity politics. What a bummer. I’ve always enjoyed his books but now he’s just pushing the same tired divisive narrative

I could only get a couple chapters in, this book is just dripping with entitlement and vocal fry. Maybe this would be enjoyable to a mainstream person that enjoys the Kardashians but that is definitely not me.
