It is certainly not Lord of the flies. Everything is mostly black and white, good or bad. Military strategy and rules glorified and Christian values. That said it's not a bad thing, it's all just to perfect.

A wake up call for porn consumers. I have watched it form time to time although not so much in recent years. I had seen August Ames somewhere and was truly amazed by her beauty but at the same time I could not understand it why she ended in this filthy business. This little saga explains thoroughly all the little bits and peaces of bad experiences in her life which ultimately led to her death. Her last performance with a brutal russian porn actor is said to have been the last bit which threw her over the edge and quite frankly it´s not hard to imagine given the description of it. This ugly industry is more often pushing people to brink of collapse by demanding all kinds of demoralising situation, physical abuse and no respect what so ever for women.

3 stars should be fair since it´s not actually a story, more like journalism. I love the voice of Jon Ronson, smooth and calming.

Brilliant satire

I had my doubts when I bought it. Hitler is probably the most hated man in history and how can a English man narrate it! Well I decided to go for it and took it as it is, a satire and gave the English man a chance. I did not regret it. Julian Rhind-Tutt is simply brilliant and very funny with all his "Lol" and "Omg" or whatever. He is hilarious as furious Hitler and although speaking English he pronounces all the German names and sites in perfect German (I think). Of course you cannot read or listen to a book like that without thinking about all the history and what if it would happen again. But as Hitler says in the book...."It was not all bad" ...or was it?

Struggled to finish for sure. I think it might be because it's to close in time for me. Someone who expirenced the cold war like me can only think it's boring compared to the two world wars and the epic times surrounding it. Or maybey this one is simply not as good?

Great mystery, excitement, legends and Devereaux!

Tales of the Templars are clouded with mystery and legends. History tells us of their brutal downfall by the King of France. As the Templars were being slaughtered there has always been tales of treasures and Holy grail some of them managed to hide somewhere. In this beautifully written story by Martina Andre she manages to involve those legends with something completely new and exciting. Time travel tale has never been so entertaining, believable, fun, romantic and the suspense is almost constant. Is it correct historically? I dont know exactly...but it is close enough as places and people sounds real and familiar. If it was a possibility I would have given the narrator, Sam Devereaux 6 stars for his lively performans, so enjoyable listening to him.

Confederate State of Texas

Civil war atmosphere, Texas is prepping for anything. 19th century Christian values and guns, lots of guns. "Texas strong, Texas free" I loved to hate this story, or hated to love it....not sure yet. There's something so wrong with it and yet I listened. I'm not sure if I get more in the series. I guess I will one day because I want to know how the mighty Texas responds to invasion. I'm pretty sure though that this time the "Confederate" state will win.

Brutal and graphic, them or us, good vs evil. But the good have Jack Bunker and he is fierce, he doesn't hesitate, he is Rambo with a past looking for a redemption. And then there is love all around involving various persons in the story, "A little house on the prairie" kind of love. Shoot their heads off or even cut it off so we can live happily on our prairie. Why are those bad guys here anyway? Anyone?

Nevertheless, I liked listening to it. Excellent narrator makes up a flawed storyline. It's a feel good story were everybody get what they deserve with almost inhuman Jack Bunker on a roll with IED's like "toe poppers".

Better second time around

Found it confusing and maybe boring first time through but when I understood the plot it was fascinating to listen again. If you give it a chance you will not be dissapointed.

Sweet story with hard to understand tech stuff

I must admit getting bored listening to all the time travel science fiction explanations. Getting past it I truly love the narrator and the sweet family and somewhat lovestory played out here. It's a feel good story and some of the caracters are priceless.

Perfect historical fiction

The narrator gets my fifth star although he absouloutely cannot pronounce Egil Skallagrímsson's name correctly. I kinda felt sorry for him but found it funny at the same time. The story flows on, never a dull moment with every emotion in the book. Based on old scripts and is simply enjoyable.
