I struggled with the narrator

I’m not sure if it’s the writing or the narrator’s voice but I struggled to get through this. I really enjoyed this author’s other works and I really wanted to enjoy this book. I just didn’t.

I love dramatisations but…

I love listening to dramatisations. They are, as the saying goes, “like a movie in your mind”. Unless the “background noises” get too distracting. This one I found the noises, like footsteps, a little too loud or irregular and it took me out of the story instead of adding to the ambience.

The actors were great! The story was absorbing and fun. I loved it. I may get book two with Kristine Vham narrating as she is always good.

I’ve listened to all of their books available at the time of this review. Some I have listened to more than once. Great characters, great plot, believable reactions and relationships (which is rare in my opinion) and cats… great!

Ok story, bad narration

This is an early work of the author and it shows. Her later books are much better. Even so the story is good. It is let down by a poor narrator. Could be an early work of his too.

I love your stories - pls fix the Te Reo

Dear RCB and Craig. I love these stories. Pls could you re-record them with the correct pronunciation of the Māori words aka Te Reo. A great resource is Te Aka the Māori dictionary. Here is a link. https://maoridictionary.co.nz/. Just put in the word and it will have a audio file you can listen to.

Not funny, couldn’t finish

Narrator is awful but that could be because the writing is terrible. I don’t understand why people are giving such glowing reviews. The main character is just snide and the female characters are annoying.

Oh how I hate cliffhangers

If I didn’t like penny’s books (and I had paid attention) I wouldn’t have bought it. But. For all that. It’s ok. But it loses points because the story is not finished and it’s a way to get more money.

Ok story let down by narration

For a YA book this story would probably be good. The narration let it down. Frequent repeats that are clearly not meant to be there and the voices of the characters were flat and not enough chances.

A previous reviewer has it right - not good

I have a lot of issues with this book. Yvonne Pohlson review of this book nails most of what I find annoying about it. I, also, don't like books that don't complete a story but that is just a minor issue compared to the rest.

This book is about a toxic, abusive relationship and, for me, epitomizes glorifying masculine toxicity. Also, this female character makes me so angry. She is strong in a lot of ways but, boy, is she weak and immature. It was just ridiculous.

Sorry Meghan, I usually love your books but this is just a "nope" from me and I will be returning it.

Ok book two didn’t disappoint either

I reviewed book 1 and said I don’t write reviews unless I really like (or hate) a book (or a narrator). Book1 was good. This one was better. I stayed up until 2:50am to finish this book and then started the next one … story is good, characters are great, pacing is addictive - buy this, it’s worth it!
