Would you try another book from Jackson Baer and/or Dan Carroll?

I would. Baer had an impression attention to detail and once Carroll got going, he was an engaging narrator.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was a bit disappointed with the ending. It felt like the author wasn't sure how to end so how the story ended seemed out of nowhere.

Did Dan Carroll do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Given the voice used for Scott, I thought the performance would be one-note but Carroll did give the characters distinct voices.

Could you see The Earth Bleeds Red being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I could. I see Scott played by Mark Ruffalo and Jessie played by Jenna Fischer.

Any additional comments?

Taken as two novels, I’d give one star to the family story and four stars to the thriller story. The thriller story was so interesting and poignant that it packs an emotional punch. Dan Carroll does a good job of narration and at 8 hours broken up, the book makes a good walking or exercise companion. If you like literary thrillers, give this one a shot. The start is slow but the build up and action are worth the slog.

What made the experience of listening to Brett Aerobicizes the most enjoyable?

The narrator's characterization of the main character was spot on and the story was compelling and fast paced.

What other book might you compare Brett Aerobicizes to and why?

The Stone Barrington series by Stuart Woods. Life just happens to Brett and he also has no luck with the ladies.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the ending, which I won't spoil. Brett's banter with the lieutenant is a close second. He's so arrogant in situations he doesn't control, it's funny.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh. I didn't cry.

Any additional comments?

Travis Henry Carter is now Brett to me. D’Aguanno followed some unexpected patterns and the dialogue is top notch. There’s a chemistry between Brett and the characters in the world not as apparent in the previous book. He still has disdain for some people and attraction to others but his interaction with Marilyn at the start of the novel is a good example. He notices everything about her. Of course, she’s attractive so he would but there’s almost a romance to his appreciation of her as a sexual object. These are the times when you can be sure that Brett has a soul. More than the first novel, Brett notices everything and his observations are frequently downright hilarious.

Would you consider the audio edition of Poolside with Brett to be better than the print version?

I've only listened but the voice acting was spectacular.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the place in time shout outs and apparent homage to classic mystery writers of a bygone era.

Have you listened to any of Travis Henry Carter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard this narrator before but thought he was well suited for Poolside with Brett

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

While I would have liked to have listened to the book in one sitting it was ideal for workouts and varied tasks though some of the rougher moments made it inappropriate for the school commute.

Any additional comments?

Poolside with Brett was well written and well voice. It is a bit blue at moments and somewhat a product of its time but with suspension of disbelief an acceptance that Brett is a douchewaffle who is a bit delusional about the legendary status of his man-beastliness, it a very good listen.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

"The Church of Fear" gives readers a little known look into a well known but little talked about religion in which members are secluded from the unbelieving family members and forced to pay exorbitant improvement fees. Scientology's cult status is clearly with each page.

Who was your favorite character and why?

John Sweeney was a favorite in his no holds barred quest for the truth.

Have you listened to any of John Sweeney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. In "Church of Fear" Sweeney was energetic and fired by his convictions which made for a fascinating listen.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"You can join but you can never leave."

Any additional comments?

“Church of Fear” by John Sweeney is a wonderfully interesting and informative read. If you’re interested in cults, human nature and organizational control pick the book up today and if you’re in the mood for a special treat, be sure the version you buy is the audio book.

What made the experience of listening to The Spy's Son the most enjoyable?

The distinctive lilt that Culp gave the character's voices that fit and enhanced the non-fiction work.

What other book might you compare The Spy's Son to and why?

Denson's work is quite reminiscent of Ben McIntyre in that he takes an in-depth view of famous crimes in a snapshot of recent history.

Have you listened to any of Jason Culp’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first Jason Culp audio book I've heard.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Would you do anything for the ones you love?

Any additional comments?

If you’re interested in criminal psychology, spy fiction or generally stories of dysfunctional families, “The Spy’s Son” is the story for you. Give it a shot in audio book format. You will not be disappointed.

Fascinating look at the history of R&B

Revisado: 03-18-15

Would you consider the audio edition of Here Comes the Night to be better than the print version?

The narration certainly enhanced the rapid fire presentation of material recited in the cool whiskey toned slightly southern voice of the reader.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The general look at the music industry is fascinating. This is not a work of non-fiction in which one character could be called out but I think the cool deception of the players and the chess play of artists was interesting to read.

Have you listened to any of Christian Rummel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first work I've heard narrated by Christian Rummel but believe that there could not have been a better narrator for this sort of non-fiction. The overload of information was given the feeling of sitting in a bar with the reader as he tell the story of all he's seen in his career.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Listening to this book in one sitting might be a bit overwhelming. It is a true treasure trove of insider stories and a detailed look at the music industry as well as the life of Bert Berns. It is, however, a book that I was always thinking about when not listening and to which I was eager to return.

Any additional comments?

"Here Comes the Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues" is a fabulous look at the inside of the R&B industry of the 50s and 60s. It is engaging and uncensored. I had never heard of Bert Berns before picking up "Here Comes the Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues" though he'd written some of my favorite songs ("Brown Eyed Girl" "Under the Boardwalk") and was a key player in the British Invasion. Bert Berns and the R&B industry were not subjects that I thought interested me before reading Joel Selvin's exceptionally well researched piece. If you're a music fan of the era, pick this one up today.

If you could sum up Christmas Eve, 1914 in three words, what would they be?

Vivid, poignant, engaging.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Christmas Eve, 1914?

The brightly generous hope of the characters.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The story was an audio play that painted a bright picture of the moment and setting.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to have listened in one sitting but that was sadly not possible.

Any additional comments?

Wonderfully written, beautifully acted, "Christmas Eve, 1914" was the complete package.
