Historia
What would happen if we intentionally chose to live a life of nobility? If we thought of our fellow man before ourselves? In a world littered with lawsuits, hate mail, and demands for punishment, when did we stop caring for our neighbor? When did we set aside the cause and effect of our decisions? With humor-filled personal tales and in-depth research, Carrie Lloyd will unfold the meaning behind the characteristics of nobility - self-sacrifice, humility, courage, self-conquest, integrity, honesty - all required for nurturing noble virtues.

Historia
Thomas was no one, an orphan with no past and no memories of his early life. The only clue lies in the strange birthmark on his chest, a mark that may or may not reveal his origin, but will certainly guide him to his destiny. Growing to manhood he will become a man of consequence and influence, yet the greatest gift he has to offer his people lies not in his power, but in his wisdom. As he strives to reach his potential he will face obstacles great and small and he will discover that some foes are too strong to defeat with power alone.

When a drug-addled Hunter Biden abandoned his waterlogged computer at a Mac repair shop in Delaware in the spring of 2019, just six days before his father announced his candidacy for the United States presidency, it became the ticking time bomb in the shadows of Joe Biden’s campaign.

Must listen
Revisado: 02-02-22
When the stories about Hunter's laptop were first floated I was a bit relieved to hear NPR management call it worthless and not worth their listeners' time. After mulling this over, shades of 1984 began to coalesce in my mind. I decided to do my own research (including this book) and have been astonished to discover the depth and depravity at the highest levels of American government. If I ever again hear the phrase, "You have my word as a Biden," I will puke.

Historia
The West and Islam - the sword and scimitar - have clashed since the 17th century, when, according to Muslim tradition, the Roman emperor rejected Prophet Muhammad's order to abandon Christianity and convert to Islam, unleashing a centuries-long jihad on Christendom. Sword and Scimitar chronicles the decisive battles that arose from this ages-old Islamic jihad, beginning with the first major Islamic attack on Christian land in 636.

Not completely suitable for audiobook format
Revisado: 09-12-21
This is a brilliant, well-documented, academic work that opened my eyes to historical facts and details unknown to me. It is also (almost miraculously) apolitical.. Unfortunately, the author inserts footnotes/references/string cites into the text. It's distracting and at times disorienting. The series of group and tribe names are necessary but often pop out of nowhere without explanation.
This is a great effort. I will buy the printed book and have started following the author. However, unless you are willing to lean back and focus entirely upon the audio script, it may be too much.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
A Lincoln Navigator carries three well-dressed people through the barren New Jersey salt flats. The trip is uncomfortable but necessary. Their target has no phone, certainly no email, and never answers his mail. But August Jorgenson is no country bumpkin. Before retiring, he was one of the most famous judges in the country, and only opinions like his fierce opposition to the death penalty kept him from a seat on the Supreme Court.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Revisado: 01-31-21
I purchased this audiobook on a whim. I'd read the book in college and found it almost inconceivable. "This could never happen," I'd thought at the time. Now here we are, with Twitter and Facebook acting as the Minstries of Truth and other acting as the Thought Police. It is incredibly sad, and I fear for my sons' future. A must-read for the current times.

And nestled within its swirling chaos is the Ascendancy, home to the enigmatic Chiss and the Nine Ruling Families that lead them. The peace of the Ascendancy, a beacon of calm and stability, is shattered after a daring attack on the Chiss capital that leaves no trace of the enemy.

Needs work
Revisado: 01-31-21
The story and plot lines are excellent. There are two problems: first, it is totally unsuitable for listening in an automobile. There are sound effects and background rumbling. It sounded like my wheels were out of balance until I discovered the cause. Extremely disconcerting. The second issue is that the author intersperses chapters of prior events ("memories") intermittently into the story line. When there are multiple characters, it becomes awkward and distracting.
One more thing: the announcement of chapters with the echo sounds cheap, and affectation. Skip that. The writing style and story line were excellent--lean in on those and skip the nonsense.

The story is interesting and nicely written. But the author employs multiple French and Latin phrases that are indecipherable. The narrator's accent didn't help. Perhaps a hard copy of the book would be more enjoyable.

Hampton Sides' superb account of this epic clash in the Korean War relies on years of archival research, unpublished letters, declassified documents, and interviews with scores of marines and Koreans who survived the siege. While expertly detailing the follies of the American leaders, On Desperate Ground is an immediate, grunt's-eye view of history, enthralling in its narrative pace and powerful in its portrayal of what ordinary men are capable of in the most extreme circumstances.

This book is brilliantly and beautifully written. Meticulous research, compelling story line, and tight prose make this one of the best audiobooks in my library. I'm admittedly not a fan of military history and bought this title as an afterthought, but I was taken in almost from the first minute and was anxious to get back to the audiobook every day. An enthusiastic thumbs-up from this corner.
