I'm glad that the story moved forward from the "search for Edmund " phrase. I was disappointed in the last book because it seemed like the author was just stalling the progression of the story. It was constant set backs with more unnecessary side quests to continue a goal that's three books in the making. Finally we got back to the magic that made this story great and I wasn't disappointed. You get more of the insane, over the top, well thought out, morally questionable, absolutely evil and blood soaked adventures with Sylver that made this story worth recommending.

The title says it all. I was morbidly curious where this disturbing story would lead. So I used a credit for book two to see what vision the writer had in mind. If I knew that 2/3 of the book's run time would be nothing but the main character essentially torturing a goblin both physically and psychologically I wouldn't have bothered. I'm serious by the way. That last 2/3's of the book is the main character, whose becoming stupider as the story progress, terrorize a goblin over the course of months with all the collateral damage that comes with that. The mc just becomes more deranged, disgusting and unlikable to the point that I think the writer has a fetish they are putting to paper under the guise of dark fantasy. I don't even get the point of the story. The leveling system makes no sense, the difficultly settings don't really mean anything, and gods don't make sense. What's the point of even having a hell difficulty when a person in easy difficulty can become just as strong with better time? You would think that the pace of progression would limited by difficulty. That a level 30 in easy difficulty would only be as strong as 15 in hard and only a 5 in hell but it's not. A level 30 is a level 30 making hell difficulty just a means to torture anyone who chooses it. Which brings up the gods role in this into focus because they make no sense. A majority apparently hate the methods the mc uses to clear the floors but nothing the mc does compares to what evils the gods do themselves. They are the ones who set this entire thing up. Which means they are both creating sentient beings to be their play things to die by the thousands every hour and simultaneously uses a already existing civilization to do the dying for their tests. So nothing the mc has done comes close to how evil and complicit the gods are to the suffering of living being. So their outrage is absurd. I think the writer gave up on rationalizing this aspect of the story just to focus on their deprived fetish.

The performance is as good as ever Daniel Wisniewski did a fantastic.

The main character got in his is own way to such a degree that it made it hard to finish the story. It was like there were two people instead of one when it came to interacting with the other characters. You would hear the main characters thoughts, thou deranged,be somewhat coherent. Then when he speaks or writes to others it was like a socially inept 12 year old who grew up with no supervision was speaking. This disconnect was clearly done to artificially add drama and/or extend the hell in hell difficult by isolating the main character. A lot could have been handled better if he just talk like a normal person or talk like the character that we experience in his head.

The story feels like torture porn at times but that is what you should expect given the title and description. So I wasn't bored with the story, which was nice . I wasn't completely turned off by the subject matter either despite it just being a race to the bottom at times. I just wish that the story moved in a direction of being more substantive about dealing with trauma instead of being a gore fest for shock value. The interpersonal dynamics between the main character and the shades was the step in the right direction. I just wish there was more of it that went somewhere.

Despite the subject matter this is hands down the best performance I've heard from Daniel ever. He really put a lot of effort in his narration which really made the hardcore elements of the story just hit you in the feels.

For the most part this story is the gold standard for a litrpg story. The level progression ,the variety in skills, the character interactions and the setting was all top notch. The biggest problems for the story are threefold.

The last couple of books is basically the same story in repeat. It starts with humans developing new ways to use the system, the middle revolves around a minor conflict that sparks a bit of intrigue, ending with a battle with the cult where only a bunch of no names die with the main cast always winning. The cult never made sense. They claim that they can't attack but only defend due to the rules set by the dark gods. However, that's obviously isn't true. They have killed many people, stolen plenty of land, committed various crimes without being attacked first. The writer wanted to create a threat that was always in the background to push the story but didn't want to have that threat do the logical thing that would have ended the story 4 books ago. Which created this disconnect where the cult can do a lot of evil things against the world unprovoked . However, for some illogical reason, not kill the main characters in a preemptive strike.

The second problem is that the writer is obviously a smug liberal who doesn't understand how money works, the history of the effects of certain government policy, and human nature when it comes to politics. It pops up throughout the series and it's always jarring. The writer can have so much insight on so many topics to flesh out the series but have this blind spot when it comes to politics. Whether it's talk about regulation, welfare, and other topics of domestic policy it's quite clear the writer doesn't know what they are talking about. The writer thinks that universal basic income is a viable solution to poverty and literally inserts themselves in the story to scuff at those that don't agree. Yet, they bring up the obvious issue of just giving money to people but don't address why that concern is wrong. Because they can't address it. They some how think that if you taxes the income of those who reach the fourth evolution that can pay for it. Which is absurd because such a program would require your country going hundreds of billions of dollars in debt on top of all the debt countries normally accumulate every year. Neverminded all the road blocks the main characters put in the way that limits the number of people who can even reaching that level. When the writer pointed to the German constitution to be their perfect template on free speech and expression in the new world government I literally laughed out loud. This series was written as Germany is literally breaking into homes and arresting thousands of it's own citizens for memes and has been doing so for years. People are being arrested for offending people because they called them fat or stupid. They have to walk on egg shells when even talking about their own immigration policy online or in the streets. That tells you all you need to know about the writers bias.

The third problem is Isaac himself. He is such a freaking hypocritic and for someone who specializes in perception he has no self awareness. He constantly worries throughout the story about people doing unsafe summoning but he does the most unsafe things over and over again. He would criticize others for their summoning practices and would do the exact thing that he said was wrong. It's one thing for him to have a public persona condemning certain practices to curtail certain actions while privately not being so judgmental . However, he genuinely hates on people who summon the "wrong" way but then immediately does the thing he condemns them for ten times over while reaping the rewards. He claims that one of his fears is that a minority of the super rich will skyrocket in power and have a monopoly of force. So what does he do? He makes sure that 99% of S rankers are either directly or indirectly controlled by governments. The epitome of the rich and powerful. Whom initiate force on the populace more than any group on the planet. So if you want to use your hard earn money to get powerful you get smacked down while getting a strong talking to but if you want to use hundreds of billions of those same people's taxes dollars to consolidate your own strength for the " betterment" of mankind then you are a ok with Isaac. Seriously. Isaac will talk crap about billionaires pushing their weight around while him and his friends gets unbelievably strong and rich using faculties that put the taxes payer trillions of dollars in debt. Neverminded, that he is literally at the head of a shadow government that is secretly influencing almost every aspect of the world. A group that can literally take the life and livelihood of who ever they want at a drop of a hat.

So in closing, this series in a lot of ways sets the bar high when it comes to it's story telling. The narrator throughout was great. It mostly suffered from being reparative, having weak antagonists and having a main character became more insufferable as the story continued. I wish the writer took more risk instead of sticking to the same story beats over and over.

I like that the author keeps expanding the world. By introducing more races with thier own unique back stories the sky is truly the limit. You can basically introduce anything when you are dealing with a cosmic ocean of fragmented worlds. I glad the alien sex stuff was toned down this time around. It has been getting too crazy and disturbing this last couple of books. As more portals open up around the place I wonder what will happen around around. Things are setting up to have even more perspectives around earth which I'm down for. The performance by the narrator hasn't changed much. It's still a middle of road attempt and I wish they would find someone better

I've read and enjoyed stories where the main characters were bad people. I've enjoyed stories where the main character was a genocidal necromancer who doesn't see good and evil as real things. Who did unspeakable things for his own goal. However, you know why I enjoyed that story despite the moral failings of the protagonist? He was incredibly well written and the story around him was amazingly done. Jack is not a well written character. He is basically a cartoon character we are suppose to pretend wouldn't have died already as an assassin. He is irrational, erratic, impulsive, short sighted and unbelievably delusional. The author basically saw Deadpool too many times and decided to make a basic version of him for the main character. So basic that I knew what his quips were going to be 7 out 10 times. He's just annoying and that applies to his allies. Hanna criticizes Jack for his attitude but she literally burned a whole encampment down because one guy was rude to her. They know your face and you decide to launch an attack on a organization that number in the thousands. Why? For some quests? You don't have any allies or backing. So you are making an enemy you can't win against. Don't even get me started on the soul oath. You make a oath. You physically/spiritually feel a click in your body after the oath but don't think there would consequences for breaking it? Why? Because of your feelings? Yeah, this story isn't worth the credit.

I will say that the narrator did a fantastic job as always.

The story was great. The narrative around why the central characters were selected for Hell difficulty and how that adds to the drama is great. They aren't good people but you have to be crazy to thrive in this system. The combat is great. The fights keeps getting more insane as the characters meet stronger and stranger enemies. The amount of thought put in,especially for Nathaniel, by the author to overcome these totally unfair scenarios is appreciated. I don't know how many floors they have left. However, like I said before. I don't know how the author is going to pace this series. The jump in difficulty between floors is insane and I'm here for it.

First off, the narrator was great. This is some of my first experiences with this particular narrator and I was pleasantly surprised by his dedication. I wouldn't be surprised if he strained a vocal cord or two when that one character died. The story continues to be great. The characters interactions continues to be top notch. I really like the main character's struggle to find his place in this new world. He has a body too young to fit his personality. So he's frustratingly treated like a child to those that don't know his secrets but can't be treated like a peer he's begging to be by the one person who does know his real identity in public. Hog is great even when's not at his best. The fights are well done. The system is very unique in it's application. I couldn't recommend this story enough.

I really wanted to like this story. The humor was good and the serious nature of the story really grounded everything. What happened to the little girl really set the tone for what to expect from this story. However, half way through we get introduced to a side character that marked the downfall of the whole story. I'm talking about Chloe. She basically mind rapes him for information and then clouds his mind to make her accompanying him not seem totally insane. She then proceeds to lie and manipulate him throughout the rest of the story. We find out that after a couple days he remembers what she did to him but for some strange reason he doesn't immediately ditch her. He makes all these ridiculous excuses of why not to leave her behind. You have a person who can manipulate your mind and you don't think that is a big deal? He then goes on later in the story saying he trusts her out of nowhere. She calls him her disciple and he just goes with it. He never addresses the fact that she knew of the wish giving Snarf and that she purposely didn't point out that wishes were on the table. She knew that if he had know about the wishes he could have wished to go back to earth. So she kept her mouth shut to screw him over so he stays in her world so she can use him. We get this brief ray of hope when Eli the elf brings up the fact Kevin doesn't have any reason to trust Chloe. She brings up that Chloe hasn't done anything but use him and she could be manipulating him with magic. However, this is never answered in the story. We never find out if Kevin's actions were his own or he was being manipulated by magic. Chloe claims she never influenced him but that's obviously not true. So I can only assume that after Chloe messed with his mind that first time everything afterwards was his own decision. Which leads to my biggest gripe of him losing all agency for the sake of bad plot.

Kevin is manipulated over and over again in this story but doesn't seem to get better as a character. Like I said before, if he was being subtly manipulated by Chloe's magic then it makes sense . However, we are left believing that he decided all this on his own due to the incompetence of the writing. You would think after what happened to that little girl at the beginning of this story that Kevin would think twice about blindly going along with others grande plans. Yet when a fairy that he's only know for two months, which did a poor job instructing him on the ways of elves in that time, tells him to be a king he goes along with it after only a few minutes contemplation. That's right. This fairy that he's known for only two months tells him that he has to marry Eli, an obvious honeypot elf, who he has only know for a week. An elf who is completely ok with all humans who are found in the forest being killed on sight. That's right. The elf's are racially cleansing any humans they find because one city declared war on them. The only reason Kevin is alive is because a fairy vouched for him. That's the person he's okay with marrying. Don't worry, all that can be forgiven because she's really hot. That's what Kevin has been reduced to by this point. Then he agrees to not only marry Eli but agrees that their half breed baby will be used as a tool for the machinations of the nobles and gods of this world for years to come. What!!!?? Who would agree to this? Who would sacrifice thier future and thier future children to a world that they want to escape? At the end of the story I lost all respect for this character.

A few more things. There's magic in this world and it is never explained. The story doesn't go into detail on what kind of magic is available, who can use it, how they learn it and how to develop it. Not once. The story strings you along into thinking Kevin is special but by the end of the story you find out that he's just some guy. The only thing special about him is that he has a gun and knows some military tactics. Which upset me because it's a obvious the writer was heavily implying that Kevin had innate abilities including the ability to kill anything. Either through divine providence or a feature of being isekai'd ,he could kill and hurt things normal mortals couldn't. It explains why he could kill the arch mage. It explains why he was able to wound that one god in the eye. Even though that God knew everything about Kevin, including what firearms are and how powerful they are, it was surprised that Kevin's bullet permanently damaged it's eye. The shadow said Kevin was protected from the revenge curse. The story said he was protected against the magic of this world due to him being an outsider. Which turned out to not true by the end. The story kept saying he had a power in him and that he was special but he was not. He just had a good gun and luck. So the insistent push by others to make him a emperor was completely nonsensical because he's just some guy. A knife to the gut or a stray arrow and he's dead.

The voice acting was good.

I wish that the people utilized the respawn ability more to thier advantage. I know that dying is painful but you keep all the experience you gain even if you die. So after experiencing it for the tenth time you would think that people would wise up. Also since you come back in fives minutes, making a strategy were people die and almost immediately reinforce is obvious. You could have had made a offensive were you constantly pushed the animals back everyday. Since you respawn fully recovered with no side effects, in fact you are particularly protected from psychological effects of dying by the system, you could keep rushing until you out pace the animals. Since the animals stay the same strength while humans got stronger each time they kill, humans could have overcome the animals making them ineffective in a week. The audio needs some editing because multiple times throughout the audiobook the same sentences were repeated over again.
