Cliffhanger Ending but amazing Story
Revisado: 11-03-22
For those who have been following the conspiracy theories in the fandom, this book gives fans something we've thought would happen for a long time. And while I appreciate the confirmation, I wish it hadn't cost what it did. Toby & family definitely have some sacrifices along the way to containing and trapping the Serpent.
Toby does Toby things, back talks to people who no one else will, does what needs to be done, and bears the costs. We continue to see some of her family come into their own and how they grow and change.
MKR does a phenomenal job with this series, as always. I'm glad I waited for her to be able to release the reading.

Chickens coming home to roost
Revisado: 01-03-21
I love how Seannan brings back threads and issues from early in October’s adventures back to the fore. Making her face the choices she has made. Showing her how her path is line downy good intentions and how she can be different from others with that. Skillfully written and heartbreaking.
Mary does an amazing job narrating, as always.

An utterly lovely end to the Vincents' story
Revisado: 12-15-17
I'm extremely saddened to have to leave Jane & Vincent, but this was such an utterly lovely end to their journey and story.
This book ties up many of the threads left throughout the series from how/why Vincent fell in love with Jane, more understanding of Vincent's childhood and upbringing, the miscarriage from Book 2, more expansion and refinement of Glamour as a magical system and maturation of a marriage. It also is another foray into a notable social issue of the time (slavery) so props to Mary for managing to hit different societal issues for each book that are of the past but relevant to today.
I was a little disconcerted originally because Mary added two narrators to this audiobook, versus her alone. One for all the male voices (which was EXTREMELY confusing for Vincent initially) and one for the female slave characters. I vastly appreciated the fact that since both additional narrators would be reading mostly Slaves that Mary worked with two amazing Voice Actors of Color (Prentice Onayemi] & [Robin Miles). Both were able to bring more authenticity to the novel and the voice of the characters.
I would note for anyone expecting or a recent mother this book may leave you blubbering.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The long awaited pregnancy after the miscarriage begins and dominates the book since it dominates Jane. And because Vincent's father is still alive, Vincent has to face his past and fears as to the father he could become based on what his father has done.
The causal rape and resulting children of slaves by the masters is disgusting and well handled.
I loved the introduction of the idea that European Glamour is limited and that there is so much more. I also loved Nicaruga (spelling because audiobook means I have no idea what the spelling is) and her standing up for herself after so much had been stolen from slaves. It is unlikely, but a lovely note that books were likely written by well meaning white men/women without crediting the African slave who shared their knowledge.
Lord Verberry continues to be an absolute evil man and I hate him and am glad he is dead. Again. For sure this time.
Also, Mary is an EVIL EVIL EVIL author and narrator because she took advantage of the PoV switch from Jane to Vincent to change the narration to Prentice and I was extremely upset that Jane might actually die. It was unnerving and effective and intolerable.
I'm so very sad my time with Sir David Vincent & Lady Vincent has come to an end.

Historia
Jane and Vincent go to Long Parkmeade to spend time with Jane’s family, but quickly turn restless. The year is unseasonably cold. No one wants to be outside and Mr. Ellsworth is concerned by the harvest, since a bad one may imperil Melody’s dowry. And Melody has concerns of her own, given the inadequate selection of eligible bachelors. When Jane and Vincent receive a commission from a prominent family in London, they decide to take it, and take Melody with them.

Lovely entry to the series
Revisado: 11-29-17
I have read the previous books in this series so it was lovely to have Mary read this one to me. She has an amazing narration voice and I was thrilled to have it for this book.
Two small quibbles on the narration
It took me a long time to understand it was Miss Declare vs Mister Claire. That lead to some issues on my part.
I thought that Mary’s choice for Melody was a little too carefree but I understand why the choice was made.
On the story:
I ended up rather disliking Jane. Even tho she improved by the end I was extremely disappointed by racist and religious discrimination of Mr O’Brian even if historically accurate.

Interesting choices of words
Revisado: 05-12-17
Overall this is a very good audio book for learning Mandarin. Some good conversational Mandarin is included. However some of the choices (Long Peace Street) are strange. Also I don't always feel that I had enough time for the first recall.

Will not get into spoilers here but this book takes the series and turns it on its head. I laughed and cried. Smiled and mourned. James' acting is top notch. Jim has progressed as an author. The cast is huge and well realized.

Audiobook Over Written, for the Fans
Revisado: 04-22-14
Where does Veronica Mars rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have never listened to an audiobook in full before, but this was an absolute treat given the narration.
Would you be willing to try another book from Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham ? Why or why not?
I might from Rob Thomas (main writer) because it would likely be set in the Veronica Mars universe and that's what I want more than his writing.
What does Kristen Bell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kristen is Veronica. This book is Veronica as the viewpoint character. She elevates this book to quality, she brings Veronica's voice and great voice acting for other characters to this. I would not have made it through without Kristen.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Spring Break in Neptune isn't safe for anyone, even Veronica.
Any additional comments?
This book is very clearly written by a Screenwriter (VM Creator/Director: Rob Thomas) with an editor (Jennifer Graham) helping reign in some of the more egregious errors/issues with plotting and pacing for a novel relative to a TV Show (which is really Thomas' world. Much as I enjoyed the Movie it was a Long TV Episode, not a movie).
The events of this case in Veronica's career take place roughly 2 months after the events of the movie (and therefore 10 years 2 months after the events of the TV show). Fans who were disappointed in the lack of investigation by Veronica in the movie will be happier in some ways with the book. I certainly preferred Veronica being actively smart, instead of just 'smart' by default idiocy of everyone else. LoVe is there, but given Logan is deployed his presence is mostly lacking.
