Historia
Trust. Betrayal. Revenge. The Count of Monte Cristo is the quintessential masterpiece of Alexandre Dumas. In Edmond Dantes we find an early materialization of the modern superhero. He is a dashing young sailor imprisoned unjustly for treason. While in prison he meets a holy man who imparts to him all his wisdom. The "abbe" also divulges the profound secret of a hidden treasure. Dantes realizes that with such immense wealth, one could wreak a hateful vengeance on one's enemies.

Good Story, but too long!
Revisado: 01-23-19
B.J Harrison MAKES this reading! He does an incredible job of representing each character with a unique voice and speaks accents perfectly! As to the story itself: too long, too many details to recall, not sufficiently rewarding in the end - in short: watch the movie; it’s a better story.

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!

Close on to the best book I've ever had the priviledge to read/hear! Fantastic characters, epic adventures, marvelous plot, no waste of space in the pages with dull chapters! Edge-of-your-set reading the whole time! I think I may have finally find an author to follow in Señore Sabatini!
Suggestion: A foreknowledge (slight or significant) of the Caribbean geography, ships ("port/lee/starboard" especially), weaponry, Spanish, Latin, and French makes the story so much the easier to enjoy....The reader would be rewarded if research is done ahead of and/or during the reading.
Regarding the naration: B.J. Harrison does a marvelous job, nearly the best narrator I've heard! He straight up NAILS the various accents and appropriates PERFECT voices for each character which remain distinct and unique throughout the story! Also, for an American (or so he sounded to be), he does a fair job with the Spanish pronunciation and an even better one with the French. I could hear him read my least favorite book and enjoy it simply because he's the reader! I've also found perhaps a narrator to follow!

Good way to test one's liking for the book

This isn't a story I especially enjoyed. The performance was decent though. I am aware the book differs somewhat from the drama but the drama shows me I wouldn't like the book.

Historia
This is a story of the days of chivalry in England and of young Myles Falworth, son of a lord unjustly disgraced for treason, who was forced to make his fortune as best he might in the days when men seemed made of iron. How he entered the service of a powerful lord, rose to knighthood, defeated his father's old enemy in thrilling combat, and at last won the friendship of the king is told against a background of the dangerous times of the 14th century that makes them live again.

One of the best books I've heard
Revisado: 09-03-17
An excellent medieval story with a good plot, cast, and moral. It was certainly exciting to listen to, but it lacked the heartgripping breathtaking awe of a truly knife-edge story. However, the book is appropriately paced and no time is wasted in uninteresting description. As to action, there is plenty....no less than 4 battles occur described. Adventure is more lacking as most of the book takes place indoors or at the castle. Romance is minimal....more or less summed up; mentioned only a few times. Very safe and appropriate read for most ages!

Wonderful story; gutwrenching ending
Revisado: 09-01-17
The story is riveting, the characters captivating, the adventure breathtaking, the romance heartbreaking. It is for this heartbreak that I score the story as I do.....I was unaware of it before I bought the book....had I been I would not have bought the book....Tragedies are for me too, well, tragic. If the ending be a sad one, I leave the book an unfulfilled reader.
