So much of our human body is made up of salt that we'd be dead without it. The fine balance of nature, the trade of salt as a currency of many nations and empires, the theme of a popular Shakespearean play... Salt is best selling author Mark Kurlansky's story of the only rock we eat.

The author of Cod and The Basque History of the World takes an extraordinary look at an ordinary substance — salt, the only rock humans eat — and how it has shaped civilization from the very beginning. Mark Kurlansky has produced a kaleidoscope of history, a multi-layered masterpiece that blends economic, scientific, political, religious, and culinary records into a rich and memorable tale.

Historia
In Kindred, Neanderthal expert Becky Wragg Sykes shoves aside the cliché of the shivering ragged figure in an icy wasteland and reveals the Neanderthal you don’t know, who lived across vast and diverse tracts of Eurasia and survived through hundreds of thousands of years of massive climate change. Using a thematic rather than chronological approach, this book will shed new light on where they lived, what they ate and the increasingly complex Neanderthal culture that is being discovered.

I recommend this book. I was a bit worried that the book would be too academic or boring, but it was not. It is very well written. I find the topic very interesting and the book was well put together. I would listen to it again.

Great story, well told. It’s quite laughable and fascinating. I reviewed the last episode instead of the whole series, so resubmitting this.
Good for any true crime or true mystery fan.

Historia
On the morning of November 4, 2019, a caravan of women and children was ambushed by masked gunmen on a desolate stretch of road in northern Mexico controlled by the Sinaloa drug cartel. Firing semi-automatic weapons, the attackers killed nine people and gravely injured five more. The victims were members of the LeBaron and La Mora communities-fundamentalist Mormons whose forebears broke from the LDS Church and settled in Mexico when their religion outlawed polygamy in the late nineteenth century.

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Historia
This magnificent biography of Henry VIII is set against the cultural, social and political background of his court - the most spectacular court ever seen in England - and the splendour of his many sumptuous palaces. An entertaining narrative packed with colourful description and a wealth of anecdotal evidence, but also a comprehensive analytical study of the development of both monarch and court during a crucial period in English history.

mildly Interesting but not insightful enough for the hours needed to listen
Revisado: 06-29-21
This book is about the lifestyle and personality of Henry VIII and doesn’t cover much else. I was hoping to learn more about how he made all the money he spent, what was England doing overseas during this time and more.
It’s also quite pro- Henry VIII, pro-royalty and a bit misogynistic. For example she calls prostitutes ‘whores’ and used other disparaging language for others. I would imagine Henry VIII would approve his book if he could. There is a lot of time spend talking about how wonderful he was and also tons of minor details like which room of which building he met such and such in. Not insightful enough for me, but mildly interesting.

Brain over Binge provides both a gripping personal account and an informative scientific perspective on bulimia and binge eating disorder. The author, Kathryn Hansen, candidly shares her experience as a bulimic and her alternative approach to recovery. Brain over Binge is different from other eating disorder books which typically present binge eating and purging as symptoms of complex emotional and psychological problems.

REALLY helpful book
Revisado: 05-02-21
I really got a lot out of this book and am using her recommendations. I’m feeling great so far.
However, the performance is partly read by a robot. I don’t know how they do it but it’s like partially real person and partially robotic. I don’t like it at all but the content was strong enough to overlook it.
