Historia
The year 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Extremely repetitive
Revisado: 06-27-23
A lot of inner thoughts are repeated chapter to chapter, almost verbatim. Dialogue is interrupted every other sentence with minutes of this tedious, repetitive monologue. Annoying and frustrating.
It’s incredibly lazy, and after a while it seems as though some parts have just been copy/pasted throughout the book.
I’m not sure if the bad writing is messing with the narration. I love Barbara Rosenblat in other series, but she sounds drunk in these books.

Historia
Abandoned by new husband, James, Agatha Raisin hops on a plane to the South Pacific in the hope that an idyllic holiday will bring some consolation. There, she befriends a honeymooning couple but, tragically, the young bride is accidentally drowned. Returning home to the Cotswolds, Agatha finds herself involved in a strangely similar situation - a woman, dressed in a wedding gown, is found floating in the river. The police say suicide, but Agatha sets out to prove them wrong.

Beaton is either old fashioned or sexist
Revisado: 04-30-22
Or both. And all characters in her books have her exact values, repeated almost verbatim and out of context in different books. It gets pretty tiresome. I don’t mind perspectives differing from my own, but a world where everyone has the exact same conservative views and specific thoughts relating to them is more unbelievable than how Raisin stumbles upon such a huge amount of bodies.
But! I love the books and they’re cozy. This one just doesn’t have enough of the good to outweigh the tiresome. Especially since I’ve listened to them before and know that there are multiple plot holes introduced with this book (primarily relating to Charles storyline).

Absolutely amazing
Revisado: 10-16-21
The author is magnificent. I’m a fan of both Sherlock Holmes and pastiches of him, and most have their own feel and reason to like them. Thomas’ version however is absolutely unique and can without a doubt stand completely on its own legs.

Mrs Packington felt alone, helpless, and utterly forlorn. But her life changed when she stumbled upon an advertisement in The Times which read: "ARE YOU HAPPY? IF NOT, CONSULT MR PARKER PYNE". Equally adept at putting together the pieces of a marriage or the fragments of a murder mystery, Mr Parker Pyne was possibly the world's most unconventional private eye, and certainly its most charming.

Bite size Christie
Revisado: 11-13-19
Cute stories, excellently narrated by Hugh Fraser as usual. While they're cute, they're not nearly close to Christie's regular levels.
If you, like me, have consumed basically everything done by her, this will be a nice addition to that pool of works. If you're new to Agatha Christie you should pick some of her classics to get a better and more fair feel of her writing and storytelling.
