Disappointed
Revisado: 02-17-23
I really wanted to like this book. In fact got it because it has a sequel but not sure I can listen to another slow story line. The potential of this book is great but the pace is truly unbearable. It took so long for the story to develop. So many things could have been written differently but the author didn’t take advantage & it all fell short. I became frustrated with the characters & some of the simple dumb things they did. Very disappointed.

Not my usual genre but I absolutely loved this book. Listened to it in less than a week. Great story line about hardship, overcoming one’s struggles, friendship & love. The narrative was amazing as well. Really made the book come alive. Ready to listen to the sequel.

Repetitive
Revisado: 12-23-22
This could have been a really good book. Just felt like the main character kept repeating herself on how she felt as an immigrant throughout the book. Literally the same sentences it seemed like. I’m a POC so I get it but at some point I said to myself okay enough already, move on with the story. The narrator’s voice was a bit annoying but after listening for a while I got used to it. I was super excited to listen to this book but disappointed in the end.

So Good!!!
Revisado: 12-06-22
I didn’t want to stop listening or for the book to end. I will probably listen to this again. The characters were well developed. The drama kept me listening. The history of the people was interesting. My only issue was not wrapping up the story in a neat bow, but I guess that is also a good thing because real life is not wrapped up in a neat bow either.

Great Concept
Revisado: 08-18-22
The concept of the book is great, but the book dull and boring. The story could have ended several chapters before it did. The ending wasn’t fulfilling as I wanted it to be. I wanted questions answered about certain characters and they were not. I was disappointed.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Inspiring
Revisado: 05-26-22
What an incredible story. Listening about the history of South Africa was eye opening. The affects of poverty and domestic violence did not stop Trevor from being successful. The only thing I wish he talked more about was how he got into comedy and his rise to success.

I want to like it more
Revisado: 05-13-22
Some of the character development are shallow. I know they are teenagers but even teenagers can think about other people besides themselves all the time. I wish we were given Jeff side of the story. How does he feel about Nina and Daphne. What is his relationship with the king? How does he feel as the only male child? I wanted to like it more but some of the characters just irritated me with their self centerness. Not sure I will invest in reading book 2 if it’s some more of the same.

That's what 15-year-old Naomi learns after she escapes the brutal confines of life on an Alabama plantation. Striking out on her own, she leaves behind her beloved Momma and sister, Hazel, and takes refuge in a Georgia brothel run by a freewheeling, gun-toting Jewish madam named Cynthia.

Incredible
Revisado: 02-20-22
So well written. You become invested in the characters. There were times I had to stop listening because I was anxious for the characters. To know that this story is based on real events makes my heart sad. But stories like this need to be told so we know our history and we don’t repeat this history.
