Beautifully written and read. Thank you so much!!! Marion and Grace, Dottie would have squirmed and loved every delightful revelation… and there are many I did not know about.

I strongly suspect the author avoided Jeanne Robertson's You Tube advice "Don't hire a hit man". Author has keen grasp of the obvious and beats his drum loudly.

Snowden's respect for the constitution and bill of rights is beautifully demonstrated in this book. I highly recomend it as a teaching primer in schools. The book serves as an excellent fact checker against fake news. Snowden commands far more of my respect than the current parade of clowns. I wish they'd get off his back. He deserves praise, not condemnation.

This book is excellent for resetting one's compass. Comey's views on torture, separation of the branches of the government, and self analysis and reflection are outstanding. I think they should be required reading in all of our high schools. We've had enough of might and money make right from LBJ to the present (IMO). Mr. Comey presents his points in cogent excellent life experiences without whining or bad mouthing. To bomb other countries "because we can", or accepting faulty reportage because it supports our suspicions is wrong. Why do we now automatically have to assume that the leader of the free world is lying to us, president after president after president? 57000 deaths in Vietnam to line LBJ's pockets. Book is a great dramatization of what happens when the electorate does not correct its mistakes. Thank you, Mr. Comey!!!

If you could sum up The Grunt Padre in three words, what would they be?

Vince is a saint.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Fr. Vince

Which character – as performed by CAPT Kevin F Spalding USNR-Ret – was your favorite?

Fr. Vince

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Certainly!

Any additional comments?

Though the events are not exactly the way I recall them, they are close enough. Fr. Vince was my friend. We struggled with the same command idiocy.Lt. Col Hilgardner demanded his priest and doctor accompany him to the field. (Read his book "Highpockets" to learn why. For a hint his formulative years were significantly altered by priests and physicians and usually not to his liking). Fr, Vince motives were pure. This was not a "suicide by combat". Vince was at 1/5 the day before he died saying Mass. I will never forget that Mass. He left with a shirt of mine. His was dirty trying to get on a chopper going to Operation Swift. Delta company had been ambushed. Bravo company went to help. Then it turned into a regimental expansion. Vince was fearless. Tried all afternoon to get on a chopper but they were taking only combatants. Ultimately they took him. I would not have gone where he went. God rest his soul.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the narrator would have stuck to his promise to not repeat all the information in the basic books.

What could William Davis MD have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I don't think William Davis had much to do with this but if he did... there's a time to check out.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Traber Burns?

The narrator is no better than his material. This is bottom feeding at its finest.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Haven't found them within an hour plus and don't intend to waste any more time on it.

Any additional comments?

None

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Best book so far. I was there, a battalion surgeon with 1/5 during the Tet 0f 68, in "medical" support of Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta companies. I wasn't as close to my losses as O'Brien because they happened while my corpsmen were on patrol with guys like O Brien and I wasn't near to them when war brought them down. But this description is so very close to what it was like at the time, the senseless loss of life for leaders unworthy of the men they sent and what they carried. Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon have so much to make up for in the afterlife for these valiant men. What a terrible waste!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

O Brien. We had the same conflicts intellectually, morally, and realistically. His description of his near abandonment of his country before he went and how he drew up all his courage to perform the cowardice necessary to fight in Vietnam. His description of the conflicted killing of frail, delicate, boy soldiers Vietnamese ripped my heart out. His descriptions are spot on and his ability to capture each and every persons reaction to the loss of their close friends and comrades is so real.

Which scene was your favorite?

His run to the Canadian border and the 82 year old man at the inn who knew his conflicts and did not interfere.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A senseless war with senseless loss of lives.

Any additional comments?

It would take another book... Well done, Mr. O Brien. You kept your integrity in spite of your country.

What did you love best about Voyager?

Based on all the five star reviews Outlander had received, I tried another of Diana Gabaldon's books and Davina Porter performances. My problem and the reason I gave Outlander such a poor review turned out to be a cheap set of ear plugs that could not separate tones sufficiently to allow Davina's very excellent Scottish brogue be understood. I started reading the Voyager and once into it, returned to the Outlander to read what I couldn't hear before. The series is marvelous, captivating. As an orthopedist I find Diana's descriptions true to life, not glorified, very realistic as to the type of problems they present and the tools in each century to deal with them. The resultant disabilities are also "not forgotten" and remain true to life throughout the novels, i.e., Fergus' amputated hand remains an amputated hand and the resultant disability in the 1700's is very realistic. And to Davina Porter's narration, she is the best I have heard so far on over a 100 audible books. Her voices are consistent. Switching from Claire's English to James' Scottish brogue is masterful. The bed scenes are hilarious! I am so sorry I dissed you because of those rotten ear plugs. Please accept my sincerest apologies. You are the best!

What did you like best about this story?

Leaping from 20th to 18th centuries and back with the attendant historical data spot on and the social reaction to it so realistic.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

Claire and Jaime. Jaime's "No's" in extended scottish brogue, coupled with a "lass" here and there tickled me.

Who was the most memorable character of Voyager and why?

Both Claire and James. Claire's femininity- as a cautious, conscientious surgeon unafraid to face problems for which she doesn't always have the materials.- as a lover, a mother, as a loyal person are all reasons why I like her so much. Jamie, almost for the same reasons. His being forced to be a gigolo to save his family from the reach of the British is particularly well described. Her courage under god awful scenes of torture and mayhem is commendable and surprisingly realistically described. She doesn't think she's brave. She just is.

Any additional comments?

Like the story I could go on and on. One would think the length of these books would make them tedious. I look forward to jumping into the car and driving long distances for my next "fix" of Claire and Jaimie.
