Historia
It’s an ordinary Monday. Until everything changes forever. At 2:44 PM, a mysterious crack appears in the sky. Anyone unfortunate enough to look up is immediately struck blind. What’s worse, their mind is wiped clean, replaced with a vicious urge to kill anyone within reach. Mark is at work when it happens. Fighting not to fall asleep, the boring department meeting suddenly turns into a bloodbath when people are drawn to the windows to look up at the sky.

I couldn't put it down
Revisado: 05-02-25
The pacing was fantastic, literally couldn't put it down. Loved the concept, and all of the flawed but human characters.

Slightly Confused but Interested
Revisado: 08-26-24
I met the author and he seemed very nice, and the performance is fantastic but I am having trouble following the story.
The story seems to switch settings, plots and narrators randomly. For example : We go from the middle of the woods at night having a seance and before the sentence is complete we're on the way to Sister Abigail in the Vatican in a speeding car.
Who is sister Abigail? Why would the cab driver be driving like a mad man? What happened to the woods? How did we cross the entire globe in a single space? Why are we going to see Sister Abigail? How does this character know all of this information about us including the narrator's interpersonal relationships if we are just meeting for the first time.
Also who is speaking right now? it was the bar keep listening to a priest listening to a confession but now it's a fourth level of narration? Did we move back to the priest, or?

Historia
Two sisters, haunted by more than their past... Just weeks after discovering each other’s existence, Jess and Hannah Ballard arrive at Fairhaven Hall, where they will learn the clandestine ways of the Durupinen, an ancient sect of women who control the Gateways between the worlds of the living and the dead. Though they are considered outcasts by most of their classmates, Jess and Hannah are determined to learn what they can to fulfill their responsibility to the many ghosts that haunt them. But danger, it seems, has followed them as closely as a shadow to their new home.

Narration

The narration was not particular good for the first few hours but the narrator did seem to hit a stride.
The story itself is very slow. I could not care less where characters who are not relevant to the plot sat in the classroom. School is a setting but it doesn't have to be the plot.
Once the action began I could not put it down but it's a many hours slog before then. I really did struggle to keep listening. I could say the same for all 3 Gateway Books.
