For the Imperial forces on the planet, every hour is a hopeless fight for survival. But into this nightmare steps Arcadian Leontus – Lord Commander of the Segmentum Solar, peerless tactician and mastermind of countless victories. A Decent Guard novel
Revisado: 03-06-25
A nice difference to the typical Guard book, even if the writing was a touch simplistic. Multiple small details shined through that showed that the author really knows the lore; when the Ork has his tooth knocked out and he sticks it in his pocket for later spending, big lolz

Steve Lyons does it again
Revisado: 03-05-25
The author shows again why he's such a talented Guard author. Well balanced and enjoyable, it's a pretty true depiction of the average Imperium response to a major threat. A bit of a bummer ending, but that's the Imperium for you. *shrug*

Historia
For too long had the Vth Legion ranged out beyond the sight of the wider Imperium, remaining ignorant of the Warmaster's rebellion and the war that inevitably followed. Only once their primarch, Jaghatai Khan, had satisfied himself that the path before them was just and true did the White Scars choose a side, taking the fight to the traitors on every front.

Has good bones
Revisado: 03-04-24
this has the making of a good 40k novel, but there are a number of inconsistencies that allow it to fall flat. the characters were pretty good, even throwing in some unexpected twists.

I overall enjoyed the book but my onlly real gripe was whether or not this story took place before or during the Era Indomitous?

But now it is shaken. Parasitic plagues run rampant, and Regium's citizens are haunted by dreams of horrific monsters feasting upon their flesh and marrow. Lieutenant Castamon of the Ultramarines recognises these signs of an impending Tyranid invasion all too well. Good story, needs different narrator
Revisado: 07-06-23
The story actually wasn't bad; it matched alot of the lore known thus far about hive fleet invasions, down to the fact that most defenses are ultimately pointless. But the narrator didn't fit the tone of the book; they tried to do different voices for the characters, but they just didn't fit the "character" of the character.
