I liked it
Revisado: 04-14-25
I will say it’s written for younger teenagers. I think I’m too cynical for it unfortunately, too many times I just wanted to be like “oh come on”. Character development could use a little work and I’m not sure of how it’s to be taken. She broke the fourth wall a few times so I’m thinking she’s telling us the story? Or we’re reading a journal? I might have missed something that explained it. I still recommend it and will probably get the next in the series. I just hope it isn’t a repeat of this one, I’d like to see something different going on.

Historia
“It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die, another to be born". An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy - abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued, and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape - but he can’t stop society’s collapse.

Tried too hard
Revisado: 04-01-25
It read like a Stephen King ghost writer, and not my favorite parts of his writing. Vague mysticism, just enough that it didn’t have to be explained. Way too in depth side characters that leave abruptly. Cliff hangers we never get back to.
And Peter, “I think they know what he is”. I don’t. Is there a part two? Because I don’t think it was explained.
All in all WAY too long, good writing, good narration, unoriginal storytelling.

Written in 2000???
Revisado: 01-26-25
I swear it was revamped and not just newly written. He doesn’t just throw in a few details to make it seem as if it were written in the 70’s, the whole thing reads of it! The seriousness, the no gray area of black and white; good guy vs bad guy thinking. Not understanding Autism, always showing it as a mental disorder / religious conduit / mysterious genius. Bad guys distinguished by dirty thoughts and racism as if it were the only way to introduce them. I swear those themes were in every book from the 70’s, when they weren’t quite sure what can be joked about just yet. True sarcasm had not yet made it to the streets past the safety of your own home. I’m impressed.
The ending was not expected but not a crazy “whaaaaat?” either.
I’m annoyed at one thing, Tom said something in her diary led him to suspect J but they never say what.

What the actual what??
Revisado: 01-03-25
I don’t know, maybe it’s just not for me because there’s a lot of great reviews. It dragged, a lot of unnecessary talking making the story way longer than it needed to be. I have a few hours left, I’m jumping 30sec shots, skipping repeated conversations and the unnecessary disgusting graphic r@pe, just to get it over with.

Alexander Grant is a little too good at a few too many things. Two dozen martial arts. Twice that many languages. Chess, the piano, sports, forging excused absences, you name it. He graduated high school top of his class 17 times. Of course, no one knows any of this. Not that he wants to go unnoticed. It’s just safer that way.

Great for 14-18yr olds
Revisado: 12-14-24
It started out a lot like I am Number Four, then threw in some unnecessary Magic Schoolbus type lectures where he was somehow present at every important event in each country despite travel not being commonplace or even feasible at the time. Good for school required reading, if they took out some of the language.

Good story
Revisado: 12-11-24
It was ok, kinda long. I’d have given it 5 stars had there been more depth to the characters and more of a climax. I would have loved to hear more of his “why”, esp in the beginning, maybe something of a back story. Then there was the empty filler of a mysterious lady friend who never once showed up. The whole switching back and forth was confusing for a but, then had me listening extra hard in case I missed any foreshadowing. I didn’t.

Its good
Revisado: 10-09-24
It’s written in the style of Stephen King in that it’s almost documentary style where almost everyone has a one-person point of view and it follows seemingly random side stories just long enough that you start to wonder if this is the new direction. The only thing that bothers me is the actual bases for the end civilization. I think that’s what puts King above, he understands there’s cynics like me who will be like “oh sure, incite a few riots and pretend the entire world collapses. If that were true Gaza and Iran would have us there now. King throws in mysticism to fill in story gaps so we can be like “idk, it just happened ok?”. But the fact I compare it to the King is quite the compliment so give it a listen.
PS I caught the Lieutenant Dan and Janice references. I feel like I win some kind of cookie or something.

Convoluted
Revisado: 09-20-24
So much to keep up with, this is my third try. I keep losing interest then attempt to start all over again because I forget what all happened. I like that it is character driven. I don’t like that the narrator cannot do girl voices. I like his voice, I love the narration but when describing a woman with a lovely voice then speak in pretty much the narration tone it loses the affect. Sometimes I can’t tell if he’s narrating or she’s speaking. The dragon sounds like one of those 1950’s gangster who call women dames. I keep waiting for her to be like “ya see”. And I swear there’s a Dr Doonfenshmirtz in there.
