Solid MHI story
Revisado: 10-11-23
I found that the narrator worked well for the POV character. Woman narrator matched the woman character well.
Not really sure what to say in general, set in the past and there are hints of things to come in the main series because of it. Otherwise it was a well crafted MHI story. Monsters were killed. Team suffered from the danger. Story made sense in context even though I am not sure if I like yet another monster as a hunter.
Worth the credit and fun to listen to while driving to and from work

Historia
Sgt. Reggie King wakes up from a battlefield injury to find himself physically intact. But the hospital staff insist he’s not fit to return to duty. As part of his psychological recovery, they introduce him to a game. Armored Souls is a tank game on steroids. Giant walking mechs called juggernauts engage in interplanetary wars as noble houses and mercenary factions wage endless battles for supremacy. For the pilots of these juggernauts, the rewards are glory, cash, and XP.

No stakes in the story
Revisado: 10-06-23
The main character just plays video games (badly because they are dumb). Poorly put together Eve Online type alliance wars. A poorly done ending.
The whole thing is a game with no real stakes at all. It does not matter if the characters win or lose as they are just playing video games. Characters are paper thin stereotypes.
Narrator does a good job considering the poor source material.

Fine to listen to but not deep
Revisado: 07-06-23
Characters are put into situations that should kill them immediately. Too much juvenile background romance threads that are never picked up. The narrator does a good job voicing characters and the story does move along in a decent enough pace. Was entertaining enough for me to finish listening to it.

Historia
In one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the 20th century, Elric is the brooding, albino emperor of the dying Kingdom of Melnibone. After defeating his nefarious cousin and gaining control over the epic sword, Stormbringer, Elric, prince of ruins, must decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in a fight against Armageddon. Stormbringer is the second in Michael Moorcock’s incredible series, which has transformed the fantasy genre for generations.

Calls Elric “Eric” over and over
Revisado: 10-27-22
Thought the narration was decent, but when the main character is called Eric over and over it gets distracting. Bad QA and editing.
The story itself is great.

Action moves the story ahead
Revisado: 10-03-20
But a little to much clinical description of the metal illness in the main characters. Gets distracting because there is too much tell and not enough show in the depictions.
Even with that, I enjoyed the book and recommend it. At its heart, it is a fun action story.

Historia
The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx.

Too slow and repetitive
Revisado: 02-21-20
The heavy-handed foreshadowing and the constant repetition is just too much. First book in a long time I could not finish. I just don’t care what happens the the characters. The thin real world stereotypes of the surrounding kingdoms are also boring.

Historia
After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least. After there was trouble on the home front and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again. So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

Another book where not much happens
Revisado: 01-11-20
Until it does. I don’t want to spoil the story, but it takes way too long before some fairly drastic actions happen and even those don’t seem to have too much effect on the main characters.
If the next book does not advance the elders plot more than a new mystery, I think I will stop with the series.

Historia
It is the 20th century's unrivaled epic: At a staggering price, the United States and its allies liberated Europe and vanquished Hitler. In the first two volumes of his best-selling Liberation Trilogy, Rick Atkinson recounted the history of how the American-led coalition fought its way from North Africa and Italy to the threshold of victory. Now he tells the most dramatic story of all - the titanic battle in Western Europe. D-Day marked the commencement of the war's final campaign, and Atkinson's astonishingly fresh account of that enormous gamble sets the pace for the masterly narrative that follows.

Fine capstone to the story of USA in WW2
Revisado: 10-21-19
I think that a few parts would have been easier to follow with a map in front of me, but I at least have been to the parts in Europe the final accounting covers enough that I was able to keep a map in my head.
The series does a great job of showing real people and, the the case of this book in particular, the real horror of WW2.

Historia
A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented - something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding. Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past.

I guess too cool for me
Revisado: 05-23-19
I thought the writing tried way too hard to be cool and fell dreadfully flat for me. The story itself was straightforward and took forever to get to the actual contest. All that time was spent with writing that I found empty. I thought the author was trying too hard, and I cannot recommend it.
Possible that others may have a different reaction to the prose, but if this is her usual style of writing I will not seek out others by her.
The narration itself was well enough done.

Over dramatic reading and excessive purple prose
Revisado: 02-09-19
I am not sure why this gets such good reviews in written and spoken (Audible.com). The story is pretty juvenile and the battles are overwrought and the heroes restored to life over and over. The narrator probably did his better, but he is was over dramatic in his reading. The writing is clumsy and I would hate to see how many times something “touches the soul” or similar for all the characters.
The magic system is not consistent and the characters are cardboard in many cases and too many.
