I loved the synergy between the importance of books/learning and the opportunity for freedom, also how these themes brought together potentially unlikely people to unite and become true friends. A great and important story!

Real life messiness and friendship

I really enjoyed this book. The narration was wonderful, I loved all the different voices. I liked all the crossovers of cultures, getting past assumptions and “learned” barriers, finding out that underneath it all, we all have struggles, talents, and the ability to find friendship and compassion.

Great read, very enlightening

I thought this was a very interesting story and quite an enlightening look into the minds of religious extremists. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in how and why our society can be so divided, the depths that women and even some men can be subjugated too, due to lack of education and patriarchal domination.
