Historia
In a world gone wrong, heroes and villains are not always easy to distinguish and every individual has the ability to contribute something powerful. In this stunning collection of original and rediscovered stories of tragedy and hope, the stars are a diverse group of students, street kids, good girls, kidnappers, and child laborers pitted against their environments, their governments, differing cultures, and sometimes one another as they seek answers in their dystopian worlds.

I always like short stories because
Revisado: 09-17-23
I can flip through the short stories which were not so great. 1st half much better than 2nd half - v. imaginative and concisely written. (the only story I liked in the 2nd half was a woman scouting 'round and about on some messed-up planet) Overall, a great book to get.

Change is coming to Sweden’s far north: its untapped natural resources are sparking a gold rush with the criminal underworld leading the charge. But it’s not the prospect of riches that brings Lisbeth Salander to the small town of Gasskas. She has been named guardian to her niece Svala, whose mother has disappeared. Two things soon become clear: Svala is a remarkably gifted teenager—and she’s being watched.

I pre-purchased this book and stopped halfway - hard to keep track. I read (real paper-made books), these books when they were originally published - many years ago! But now this series has lost its way. Great narrator. TRW

Historia
It all happens so quickly. One day you’re living the dream, commuting to work by ferry with your charismatic neighbor Kit in the seat beside you. The next, Kit hasn’t turned up for the boat and his wife, Melia, has reported him missing. When you get off at your stop, the police are waiting. Another passenger saw you and Kit arguing on the boat home the night before, and the police say that you had a reason to want him dead. You protest. You and Kit are friends - ask Melia, she’ll vouch for you. And who exactly is this other passenger pointing the finger?

Devoted Floridaphile Serge Storms is a lover of history, so he’s decided to investigate his own using one of those DNA services from late-night TV. Excited to construct a family tree, he and Coleman hit the road to meet his kin. Revisado: 01-01-21
I liked his stories. He seems to gloss over how, yes, the FED saved the world during 2009 by bailing out Banks and Finance Houses - and also their Executives (just that the FED is the Hero of the World). He didn't really address the potential consequences of the Trillions of dollars created ever since (out of thin air). He did better expounding about the new Euro. He could point out that now, cash will be used as a store of value, and that Square or credit cards will be used for transactions (rather than cash). Maybe a good chapter about how the Pound Sterling used to rule the World - but not anymore - would be a good story. If really writing about Money, then why not point out that pennies are stupid. Probably the most for which I disagree is his attacking the Gold Standard, that topic went on and on, and on. Never mentioned that gold's price is up 100X after the dollar no longer redeemable for gold. Yes, the pertinent paper currency drops in value when too much is made (or its issuer is vanquished in a war).

Historia
Florida, circa 1980. Reed Crowe, the eponymous Florida Man, is a middle-aged beach bum, beleaguered and disenfranchised, living on ill-gotten gains deep in the jungly heart of Florida. When sinkholes start opening on Emerald Island, not only are Reed Crowe's seedy businesses - a moribund motel and a shabby amusement park - endangered, but so are his secrets. Crowe, amateur spelunker, begins uncovering artifacts that change his understanding of the island’s history, as well as his understanding of his family’s birthright as pioneering homesteaders.

Historia
It is the 14th century, and one of the most apocalyptic events in human history is set to occur - the coming of the Black Death. History teaches us that a third of Europe's population was destroyed. But what if the plague had killed 99 percent of the population instead? How would the world have changed? This is a look at the history that could have been - a history that stretches across centuries, a history that sees dynasties and nations rise and crumble, a history that spans horrible famine and magnificent innovation.

Started off great then withered on the vine
Revisado: 10-27-19
First: the performance was great, and I also like some of Kim's other books very much. As other reviews mentioned, started off great, really great, and then got meandering. I skipped chapters..... And, still wanted the freshness of the first chapters. Even so, with a few hours left, I have abandoned this book and moved on. Wasted time.

Waited years for this.....Yikes
Revisado: 10-09-17
Extremely predictable actions and reactions. The characters are so stock-plot and cardboard. His first books were my favorites, this is just some nonsense to get easy cash. I kept waiting for it to spool-up but yikes is all I can say. The Da Vinci Code was a fantastic book (the movie was generic). Where did the talent go? Too much money is not necessarily a good thing, you lose your edge.
