Historia
Though created by humans, our technologies, markets, and institutions often contain an antihuman agenda. Douglas Rushkoff, digital theorist and host of the NPR-One podcast Team Human, reveals the dynamics of this antihuman machinery and invites us to remake these aspects of society in ways that foster our humanity. In 100 aphoristic statements, his manifesto exposes how forces for human connection have turned into ones of isolation and repression.

if this book doesn't restore your faith in humanity, nothing will. The performance is great too, you can hear his contained excitement. Truly amazing.

Historia
Reading maps or reading emotions? Barbie or Lego? We live in a gendered world where we are bombarded with messages about sex and gender. But what does this constant gendering mean for our thoughts, decisions and behaviour? And what does it mean for our brains? Drawing on her life’s work as a Professor of Cognitive Neuroimaging, Gina Rippon unpacks the stereotypes that bombard us from our earliest moments and shows how these messages mould our ideas of ourselves and even shape our brains.

Watch the debate on youtube instead
Revisado: 01-28-20
Watch the "Is the brain gendered?" debate on youtube and you'll see the author being debunked with a bunch of facts in about 10 minutes.
This book is the longer, more cringeworthy version of that. Save yourself the time.

Historia
From the author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos comes a provocative hypothesis that explores the connection between what modern neuropsychology tells us about the brain and what rituals, myths, and religious stories have long narrated. A cutting-edge work that brings together neuropsychology, cognitive science, and Freudian and Jungian approaches to mythology and narrative, Maps of Meaning presents a rich theory that makes the wisdom and meaning of myth accessible to the critical modern mind.

Don't get this if you've watched a lot of him
Revisado: 04-10-19
This is quite academic. Not difficult, but academic. Meaning: if you're thinking of getting this book because you've watched a lot of his lectures and got inspired, this will probably bore you.
I've watched the entire Maps of Meaning course on youtube twice, it's fantastic and so I thought it'd be great to dive deeper, but I'm not a psychology student so the extra info in this book it's overload to me. The youtube lectures contain more than enough for a layperson.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

if this book doesn't change your life, none will
Revisado: 04-06-19
Outstanding! An incredible life story told in a different way, and very fast paced - as the man himself.
So much military stuff, and absolutely no pandering or inflated nationalism. DG is really a role model for role models!
Now excuse me, I gotta go run.

Terrible host, speaks. so. slowly.
Revisado: 02-13-19
The host is very annoying, speaks way too slow. I have to put the audio at 2x speed to make him sound normal but then the guest sounds sped up, terrible experience.
Interesting concept interviewing geniouses but please get a proper host that talks normally, not like Obama on Valium.

Not a lot of "americanism"
Revisado: 02-13-19
The one-star reviews that said this book promoted too much americanism almost made me not read it. There is the usual "we are the good guys" rethoric but it's not that bad, and you couldn't expect otherwise from the author's bio.
It's a very interesting account of some of the backstage behind what's going on in cyber warfare, with some of the reasoning behind key geopolitical moves by the U.S. government. In many areas, feels like what a realistic episode of the show "24" would look like.
The reading is excellent, respectful to foreign names, and manageable to be listened at 1.75x with no loss of comprehension.
This is my first audible audiobook and I am completely hooked; much better than spending time listening to podcasts. Thanks a lot to all the people involved in producing this material, superb work.
