Historia
In a book as eye-opening as it is riveting, practicing nurse and New York Times columnist Theresa Brown invites us to experience not just a day in the life of a nurse but all the life that happens in just one day in a hospital's cancer ward. In the span of 12 hours, lives can be lost, life-altering medical treatment decisions made, and dreams fulfilled or irrevocably stolen.

I had to stop it halfway through
Revisado: 04-14-21
This book is very good. Very vivid. Written well. I had to stop because of my own fears. Some parts describe a mother's worst nightmare coming true and it was just too much for me. Very upsetting. If you are a tough person then this book is outstanding. I have a ways to go. I'm not that hardened yet.

Self-congratulatory & Corny
Revisado: 03-19-21
I feel like this author had tons of Live, Laugh, Love decor on everything she owns. Although I respect and have reverence for nursing in all of its glory, this was really corny a lot of the time - I found myself with second-hand embarrassment from the platitudes and self-congratulating. The amount of times she brought up that she was "blonde" was pretty cringy; it seems she thinks being blonde is a personality trait. Another thing that stood out was her discussing how she reacted to her mother's breast cancer diagnosis. She said, "I looked in the mirror and noticed how green my eyes were, like a cat's, but with white and red edges" - something to that effect. It was a strange thing to notice and add into a book when discussing something so traumatic and serious. The entire last but of the book is separate letters, to her friends, family, patients, and "future children" - which is basically her talking about how's she's a nurse and how that comes first, but to please admire her for putting them last. I was really disappointed in this book and I wish I could get a refund.

Historia
When this best-selling autobiography was originally released, everyone was shocked: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell was the darkest, funniest, most controversial and best-selling rock book of its time - and it became the template, both visually and narratively, for almost every rock book since. Marilyn Manson is not just a music icon, it turned out, but one of the best storytellers of his generation.

I am a huge MM fan, but....
Revisado: 02-20-21
This was freaking terrible. It's hard to believe this was written by such a creative and vivid person. I struggled to finish it, but forced myself. It failed to keep my attention, and it had so many desperate grotesque descriptions in place of actual content. There wasn't much content there at all, I don't even know what I just listened to. The narrator also lacked...something. He sounded like a cliché imitation of MM. If I had the chance, I would not have bought this book. Very disappointing.

From Atkins to Dukan, fear of the almighty carb has taken over the diet industry for the past few decades - even the mere mention of a starch-heavy food is enough to trigger an avalanche of shame and longing. But the truth is, carbs are not the enemy. Now, best-selling author John A. McDougall, MD, and his kitchen-savvy wife, Mary, prove that a starch-rich diet can actually help us lose weight, prevent a variety of ills, and even cure common diseases.

Historia
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

From a non-fan: FIVE STARS, DAAAHLING 🌟
Revisado: 10-19-20
I bought this book because I hoped it would talk about Eminem, but I found myself enjoying it regardless. Mariah Carey brilliantly narrates her life story. Vivid and colorful word choices throughout the book. Paints a great picture of why Mariah is the person she is. There's a little bit of poor-me and a little bit of self-congratulations, but what else would you expect from such a diva? I enjoyed this book and highly recommend. Really entertaining and surprisingly relatable.
