Historia
A treasure hunt into the deepest cave system in Europe takes a turn for the worst. Now, rather than treasure, it is survival that is at the forefront of the spelunkers' thoughts. But their attempt to escape out of the dark deep places is thwarted. Men are not at home in the depths. But there are things that are... pale terrifying things. Huge things. Things red in tooth and claw.

Fun ride adventure novel
Revisado: 08-04-21
Interesting take on adventure novels. It has the struggle to survive, antagonists played by strange undiscovered creatures and the lure of buried (really deeply buried) treasure in a strange land. Author does a decent job of describing the biome and you do get to know the characters (my favorite was the dog). The story is 4 stars, could have fleshed it out a little more and even though it had several fast paced action scenes it still seems to drag just a little in spots. The narrator does a decent job of differentiating the lines by voicing the characters differently but was really slow, I listened at 1.2 and it sounded like regularly paced speech

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

King back in form
Revisado: 05-07-20
Loved it, King had had his share of duds in recent years but this one feels like a return to his old form, just a great story that keeps you on the edge of your mental seat for the entire ride

Just couldn't make it through
Revisado: 08-16-19
Just not to my taste. I'm not trying to sound sexist but i just enjoy the timbre and delivery of male narrators, this one grated on my ears. I could have powered through but the story wasn't good enough to make me want to. Caught it on sale and gave it a try, but it'll sit unfinished in my library

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Fun ride
Revisado: 08-16-19
The premise of the story is great, thoroughly enjoyed the fictional history mixed in with good storytelling. (spoilers ahead) For me, though, i felt like it went off the rails a bit toward the end with the otherworldly visit and the creatures therein. I felt like it would have been more believable had that been curtailed or edited out completely

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Great as a standalone side story of the Mr Mercedes series. Typical King with a plot that keeps you tuning in to see what happens next and top notch character development that makes you care about them, he's one of the best at it.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

i read this decades ago in print, wanted a refresher. The reader did a great job with his inflections, you could always tell who was speaking. The story itself was just as great as I remembered, still my favorite King novel
