This story is everything: an Epic Sci-Fi/Fantasy fusion that opens up an entirely different world, nothing like you've read before, guaranteed.

There's love (even some well-done LGBT rep!), intrigue, and powerful magic (tho "magic" is a simplified term for what it really is)... Complex world-building done remarkably well: as it starts, it is difficult to follow the intricacies, but by the end I was grateful for the depth. It all came together with perfect sense, and I was completely immersed in the world.

The best part? Definitely the twist in the POC writing style - no spoilers, but this writer blew my mind when it all came together!

The narrator adds a certain humor to the story, fitting the characters with much-needed humility and humanity for such a heavy plot. Very nicely done.

Immediately bought the next installment, and hooked for the long haul. Buy it! I recommend getting the kindle companion too, cus the world is COMPLICATED, and you'll be glad to have the visual reference to follow along, plus the histories and definitions that are included. This is a real Epic, High Fantasy (Sci-Fi) so dig in all the way.

What did you love best about The Only Way?

The challenges faced by the main character, the driving story.

Did Elizabeth Saydah do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Not exactly... Saydah used maybe 3 voices, but - like most of her reading in the book - the voices were rushed so it was hard to hold onto the distinctions. She actually seemed to rush MORE over dialogue than anything else, which was sometimes actually irritating.

Any additional comments?

Good story, love the premise and the main character, and very glad to see more diverse fiction getting into Audible. However, the reading felt REALLY rushed and the emotion/drama was lost in the reader's odd, flat tempo. Almost seemed that Saydah was just trying to get thru it rather than voicing the story, and she didn't take time to emphasize the action and dialogue. Coupled with the author's unrefined writing style, I think it made the overall experience feel too immature, even if you think of it as YA. I think reading the book myself would have been the better way to go, and that's what I would recommend to others thinking of getting the Audible.
