Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

What happened to You improved my life practice regarding trauma. Just the title and the explanation behind it provided a thoughtful approach to address trauma. The countless examples and testimonies in this audio were inspiring. Take the time and listen. It’s life changing.

Insulin resistance
Revisado: 07-07-17
The breakdown on insulin shifted my paradigm. I believe that information will increase my longevity. Also, how Dr. Fung connected intermittent fasting to ancient fasting philosophies accompanied with evidence based medicine was extremely helpful.

Historia
A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game. It challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality: the black Chinese restaurant.

Historia
At once a powerful evocation of his early life in Harlem and a disturbing examination of the consequences of racial injustice to both the individual and the body politic, James Baldwin galvanized the nation in the early days of the civil rights movement with this eloquent manifesto. The Fire Next Time stands as one of the essential works of our literature.

It amazes me how America has changed and then how it has not. Socioeconomics must be addressed and Baldwin indicates this.

Historia
Drawing on his own experience of feeling undervalued and invisible in classrooms as a young man of color, and merging his experiences with more than a decade of teaching and researching in urban America, award-winning educator Christopher Emdin offers a new lens on an approach to teaching and learning in urban schools. He begins by taking to task the perception of urban youth of color as unteachable, and he challenges educators to embrace and respect each student's culture.

Revisado: 08-29-16
I loved listening to this book. Chris was able to put in words how many indigenous people learn. Moreover, stressing the importance of understanding and connecting with students prior to learning through their lens. To hear how Chris seamlessly taught code switching and the importance of it was impressive.

America's great promise of equality has always rung hollow in the ears of African Americans. But today the situation has grown even more dire. From the murders of black youth by the police to the dismantling of the Voting Rights Act to the disaster visited upon poor and middle-class black families by the Great Recession, it is clear that black America faces an emergency - at the very moment the election of the first black president has prompted many to believe we've solved America's race problem.

I've read this in my sixth year of marriage and it was good. I listened to it going into my 18th year of marriage and it is even better. Like the old saying if you don't use it you loose it. Keep this book or audio in constant rotation and it will reduce your stress levels. Classic Literature is always relevant to any time period.
