This book was worth the read. I have not read any books about the nurses in Vietnam before this one, so this was an eye opener for me. Although there were times when I felt that the main character might have been a little naive by allowing herself to be strung along by the men in her life, there were complex enough relationships which made the story line credible.
The author did not shy away from the hard things such as the tragedy of war, the loss of life and the mental anguish which we now know as PTSD which goes hand in hand with war.
In reflection, the men and women who came home from war and were treated so badly and the repercussions that the war has had on our society, needs to be examined and thought over in order to prevent the cycle of war and the loss of a generation of young people. Kudos to Kristin Hannah for not being afraid to write this book and for highlighting the role that women played.

The story dragged on a little in order to come to what I see was an obvious conclusion.

Dark indeed. The story kept me listening, but another dark and disturbing story with a beautiful mentality I’ll person at the center.

The book kept me reading. The language, setting and unraveling of the mystery of Rose entwined with Sofie set in Europe was perfect. The old and the new, the young and the old, the discovered and the abandoned. There is a lot to untangle, but Ms. Levy does a masterful job.

This book is a keeper. I’m getting the hard copy because it’s a collector’s item and worth a slower read with time to ponder. Loved it!

Not sure why the author had to create such contradiction in a man of this era. I usually read the.es books to avoid some of the modern garbage that are often depicted in books with too much sex and lies, this unfortunate depiction of one of the main characters made it so that I had to deal with this when I would rather have avoided it.

This book took me inside the courtroom where Lincoln mastered the task before him. 2 hours of summation for the life of the man that he saved, done with truth and passion and beautifully retold here. Every American should read this book.

This book almost brought me to tears especially near the end during the sentencing for the second time and the words of the spy’s sin. Although I fully understand the nature of the crime that was committed, I had a ton of emotions for Nathan. It is a great book. Can’t wait to see the movie.

What did you love best about Love in the Time of Cholera?

It shows that love is worth waiting for. It is interesting that being from the Caribbean, I was able to understand some of the prejudices in the book. The stereo types that existed are ever present in that part of the world today.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Love in the Time of Cholera?

The Trip on the river boat! I had a vivid image of the mosquitoes and the oppressive heat with no AC!

What about Armando Durán’s performance did you like?

I love the fact that he read with an accent. It added the right flavor and atmosphere to evoke the feeling that was created in the characters in the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, no extreme reactions, although there were sad moments.

Any additional comments?

Old age is sad but in this story is was romantic!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I would change some of the reading style.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Surprise.

Did Christopher Lane do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes. He added accents to different people and between the various characters.

Do you think Damascus Countdown needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. Too depressing.

Any additional comments?

A lot of what was in the book was familiar to me. Some of it was drawn from biblical prophesy. There was some conjecture and I guess that is why it is a fictional tale.
