Historia
Eddie Huang is the 30-year-old proprietor of Baohaus - the hot East Village hangout where foodies, stoners, and students come to stuff their faces with delicious Taiwanese street food late into the night - and one of the food world’s brightest and most controversial young stars. But before he created the perfect home for himself in a small patch of downtown New York, Eddie wandered the American wilderness looking for a place to call his own. Funny, raw, and moving, and told in an irrepressibly alive and original voice, Fresh Off the Boat recasts the immigrant’s story for the 21st century.

Amazing
Revisado: 08-20-15
What I thought was going to be a simple "how i did it" memoir was so much more. Eddie's insights into race and culture are invaluable, and uniquely broadcast from his one-of-a-kind cadence and tone. Not only is the text itself a pleasure, but Eddie's reading of it is lively, entertaining, honest, and refreshing. He often goes "off-script" during the audiobook, elaborating in ways he doesn't in the printed version. He also genuinely re-experiences the moments he recalls, laughing along at funny stories, clearly affected by more troubling ones. As a result, this audiobook feels so much more like a conversation than any other I have listened to yet. Well done, Mr. Huang!

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

A Fantastic Book Ruined by Terrible Audio Editing
Revisado: 08-17-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I would say that it's worth your time. I've really enjoyed this audiobook, not only because of its insight into the life and mind of a brilliant comedian, but because of the crisp, fresh prose within. Tina regularly has me laughing out loud.
What other book might you compare Bossypants to and why?
I would compare it to Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? And Other Concerns." Not only are both part-memoir, part-essay compilation, part-confessional, but both are incredibly witty and easy to listen to.
Have you listened to any of Tina Fey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to any of her other audiobooks (does she have any others?) But I have watched every episode of 30 Rock, and am pretty familiar with her work on SNL. If you enjoy the sense of humor in her work from television, you'll love this book.
What else would you have wanted to know about Tina Fey’s life?
I would have been interested to hear more about Tina's time in college. It's interesting to hear stories from people who studied drama at university.
Any additional comments?
Wow, what happened to the recording of this book? Honestly, as much as I love the content and Tina's performance, the audio editing in this audiobook is downright unlistenable at times.
There is a near constant buzzing/humming sound whenever Tina is talking. At first I thought this was the fault of my speakers, but the same result is rendered on my phone's built-in speakers, in the car stereo (playing from my phone), through my laptop's speakers, and through the headphone jack in my laptop. During portions of the book when Tina is speaking in a quieter tone, the humming sound can be incredibly distracting.
Not only is the ubiquitous humming a serious problem, but there is also an issue of the volume knob of Tina's voice being quickly turned down at the end of many sentences. It's clear that the audio engineer did this to try and make the transition between separate recordings (nearly every other sentence) sound as seamless and natural as possible, but putting that "fade out" effect on so many clips indiscriminately means effectively covering up numerous ends of sentences. The trouble with this is that, in comedy, the punchlines are often delivered, that's right, at the end of many sentences. As a result, multiple rewinds are necessary in order to catch dozens of jokes throughout the book. It's incredibly frustrating, and has nearly ruined the book for me.
Thankfully, Tina's prose is strong enough to keep this a 3-star overall book. I would recommend having a physical copy of the book as well, so that you can reread the parts you can't hear because of the editing.
