Historia
Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead. Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it. When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

Historia
You know it's going to be a rough summer when you spend Father's Day visiting your dad in the local lockup. Noah's dad is sure that the owner of the Coral Queen casino boat is flushing raw sewage into the harbor, which has made taking a dip at the local beach like swimming in a toilet. He can't prove it though, and so he decides that sinking the boat will make an effective statement. Right. The boat is pumped out and back in business within days and Noah's dad is stuck in the clink.

Recorded sound quality is terrible.
Revisado: 10-21-18
The story is fun; the narrator is good; but the recorded sound quality is terrible. To actually hear parts of the story, we had to turn the volume up pretty high. The result is that it is alternately too loud or too soft. Very annoying. I don't know that it's the narrator's fault. It's just a very poor audio. (We've listened to over 75 books in the same manner, and this is the first issue we've had like this. It should be re-done.)

Not for middle grade
Revisado: 05-29-17
This is a well-written book, but it's too dark for for upper-elementary or lower-middle readers. Reviews typically compare to To Kill a Mockingbird. Even that book is more of a high school read.

Historia
Fourth grade is not going at all how Benny Barrows hoped. He hasn't found a new best friend. He's still not a great bike rider - even though his brother, George, who's autistic, can do tricks. And, worst of all, he worries his dad's recent accident might be all his fault. Benny tries to take his mom's advice and focus on helping others and to take things one step at a time. But when his dad ends up in the hospital again, Benny doesn't know how he and his family will overcome all the bad luck that life seems to have thrown their way.

First audio book my son has refused after starting
Revisado: 10-16-16
We listen to tons of audio books. This is the first one that my son has outright rejected. He started complaining at less than an hour but hung on for two. (He's 11 yo.) His description is that the book is depressing and the narrator is whiny. He'd absolutely had enough when the protagonist talked about how he would go to the nurse's office to cry. I see his point. The book is unrelentingly depressing in the first two hours. There is no humor, and the audio reader lacks energy and has a rather whiny, tired voice. I (50 yo psychologist) am still interested in the book, but it seems a miss for its intended audience. Other reviews on the written material are wonderful, but my hunch is that the positive reviews are primarily from adults. (It's compared to Wonder & Out of my Mind---and my son loved both of those, just for comparison...)

It doesn't get any better than this!
Revisado: 01-13-16
For starters, Jim Dale is absolutely amazing as a reader. Hands down, the best in the business. He makes any story come alive with such richness and depth that you feel like you are right there in it! And, this is a rollicking good tale! Every bit as good as the first! My only "criticism" is that there is so much going on, that I got a little tired living through it! (Of course, that kind of liveliness is hardly a real criticism.) Suffice it to say that both mom and 10 yo boy were absolutely riveted.

Deliciously hilarious, frightening & heartwarming
Revisado: 12-28-14
My 9 yo son and I have recently discovered David Walliams, and we've very quickly become huge fans. Demon Dentist is the most far-fetched (of a fairly far-fetched set), and we loved it. My son laughed hysterically at many points throughout the story, and frequently imitates the humor and voices himself. David Walliams' performance is first-rate with wonderful voices for all the characters. He's done a marvelous job creating thoughtful and thoroughly entertaining stories for children (of all ages).

Need the illustrations
Revisado: 06-02-14
This was a cute, funny story. We were unfamiliar with the series when I bought. Both my son and I love audiobooks, and this one is truly well-read. The only problem is that you miss the cute illustrations. We read the 2nd in the series aloud ourselves, and access to the illustrations made a difference.

Lovely story, perfectly read
Revisado: 03-24-14
This is a truly beautiful story, a wonderful modern fairy tale. And it was read perfectly. The themes are heavy and melancholy, primarily dealing with loss, death and grief. But it was marvelously handled and easily accessible to the 2nd grader listening with me. And, in the end (and throughout), it was ultimately hopeful and empowering. We both loved every minute of it!
