Body and soul. The song. That's what London constable and sorcerer's apprentice Peter Grant first notices when he examines the corpse of Cyrus Wilkins, part-time jazz drummer and full-time accountant, who dropped dead of a heart attack while playing a gig at Soho's 606 Club. The notes of the old jazz standard are rising from the body - a sure sign that something about the man's death was not at all natural but instead supernatural.

Funny but more explicit than the previous installment
Revisado: 12-18-23
I enjoy the setup here - the Jazz scene , the gangsters and the voluptuous lover. I just really wish that they hadn't been quite as explicit as it was. really I could have skipped all the sex and just gone for a nice curtain drop.

A little to predictable and gloomy
Revisado: 04-21-22
This is a prequel. It is written assuming you have read the other old kingdom books - so the descriptions are thin of familiar locations and characters that have appeared in other books. I personally feel the author is more showing a backstage and a setup. Nothing feels very surprising.

Disappointing PC rant of a Undergrad
Revisado: 10-13-21
This book listens like you have been cornered by a undergrad with a cause at a table with some pamphlets. The message is good however the author needs to learn to give the reader space to are their own conclusions rather than presenting a conclusion and then giving a example which isn't flushed out. She has chosen first person narrative, and tends to refer to her mother which gives the text the feeling she is talking your ear off rather than authority in field. The author in future would do well to leave out " phew" at the end complexes grammar stretches by inviting the reader in a illustratable story or by developing a larger vocabulary to allow for ideas such as the interplay of thought and language as a self-reinforcing loop with each reinforcing the mentality of the individual towards a ridge view of the concept.

Battle and Battle Strategy
Revisado: 07-19-20
I enjoy a battle or 3 but I want characters I can feel for - motivation and direction. 3 chapters in and want I understand is basically the immortals are fighting and spending mortal lives for the past 3 generations - without care of humanity - to win but - they seem to have forgotten about all else. Which leads me to the view that someone should have given these immortals a video game and let the poor humans get on with living. I am returning this one.
There isn't really any attempt by author to even detail the battles - he saves time by tell you that only the best of the immortals can follow the details of the battle.
Jonathan's performance is great. I didn't get to Emma but that fine.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

phone run through creative thinking
Revisado: 05-24-20
well the author doesn't actually explain the magical system the main characters office Lee familiar with it and exploited. I love that the author took a seemingly random class and had the main character play with it until it was functional able to stop the demon King. I'd love to read a sequel and I think more books in those world would be very welcome.

Historia
The Academy of Chaenbalu has stood against magic for centuries. Hidden from the world, acting from the shadows, it trains its students to detect and retrieve magic artifacts, which it jealously guards from the misuse of others. Because magic is dangerous: Something that heals can also harm, and a power that aids one person may destroy another. Of the academy’s many students, only the most skilled can become Avatars - warrior thieves, capable of infiltrating the most heavily guarded vaults - and only the most determined can be trusted to resist the lure of magic.

Alright
Revisado: 05-24-20
the plot wasn't too bad. I really wish the author had spent a little more on character and descriptions. really if you're going to kill somebody in the next three pages you don't need to describe them unless they're villain. I really wish that there had been a development of class and of more than seven characters and the world. really by the end of the book we know very little bit about any magical systems, what the gods are up to, where we are on a map, or even any prophecies.

Wonder through world as a disembodied ghost
Revisado: 04-06-20
There is a plot, their are characters but I feel bored and a bit lost. There seem to never be any actions. The ladys might make up the queen and their is a description of the dress and jewelry but not of the effect. The character are "angry" or "pleased" but not described acting or of their expression. There is little trying to build picture of the religions of the world but yet their riffs are described as political problems.
The narrator did a good job keeping the voices clear for who was speaking.and injection some personality in the story.
I think this book could be rewritten to be interesting. Twenty something chapters in I am done.

unbelievably virtuous character
Revisado: 01-25-20
I recognized in many children's stories that the main character is virtuous past their surroundings. but the author goes out of her way to describe the main character's mother as only vial there is no motherly love there is no interest in the child and there is only cruelty and violence. yet the author just not give the main character a image of virtue that she explains fully to the audience. well the main character is given a collection of fables for such a central aspect of the characters very scant details of the stories and really only descriptions of a few pictures. the second phase the author has her character go out into the world and in many ways it makes a little sense character is so naive that her interactions with the world do not really move her forward. finally for those who might be concerned there is a discussion in part 3 of the difference between male and female and the concept of where babies come from. I personally felt that well the character had no good way to understand this but given how sketchy so many of the other details have been that realistically I don't know why the author wanted to go into detail about this bit unless of course she just wanted to slip it in. I felt that the story was very flat and missed its Mark by failing to develop many of the side characters motivations and that the main character was unbelievably nice and naive for someone who should have been groomed to be an evil queen.

Excellent ...
Revisado: 01-05-20
There were a couple of points where the sex and murder really mad me want to drop this book - it's more than in the previous books but thankfully does come to an end without running out of book or making the rest unreadable. This is longer then the previous books and a few times I was greatfull for the long summary/introduction. I won't suggest trying to start the series here but for those who have hung on its enjoyable.
