Historia
Joanna Gaines' new book, The Stories We Tell, invites us on an authentic and deeply vulnerable journey into her story—and helps shine a light on the beauty of our own—guiding us to release the weights that hold us back so we may live and share our story in truth. We've all dropped anchor in places that suited us for a time: a city, a perspective, a lie we mistook as truth. This book is an invitation to a kind of life where you know how to hold what you believe—about yourself and the quiet worlds behind the people you pass—with gracious and open hands.

The story I didn’t know I needed to hear
Revisado: 02-20-23
The section about realizing she was tethered to performance and perfection, that allowed for more control was so good I had to listen twice. Thanks for sharing these insights so we too can learn about ourselves and “have a fun” more!

Surprise read
Revisado: 11-27-21
I was looking for something encouraging, and refreshing for my soul but in that end I believe I got so much more! Her sharing of her nightly ritual of tracing God’s goodness, trusting Him to Be who she needs Him to be and leaning into Him with action really was such a helpful tool! Definitely a book I’d consider putting in my library to return to like three sand dollar, as a reminder!

Historia
While there are many books about writing, none deal firsthand with the intersection of songwriting, storytelling, and vocation, along with nuts-and-bolts exploration of the great mystery of creativity. In Adorning the Dark, Andrew describes six principles for the writing life: serving the work, serving the audience, selectivity, discernment, discipline, and community. Through stories from his own journey, Andrew shows how these principles are not merely helpful for writers and artists but for anyone interested in imitating the way the Creator interacts with his creation.

Historia
A shimmering evocation, by turns intimate and panoramic, of one of the world’s great cities, by its foremost writer. Orhan Pamuk was born in Istanbul and still lives in the family apartment building where his mother first held him in her arms. His portrait of his city is thus also a self-portrait, refracted by memory and the melancholy—or hüzün—that all Istanbullus share.

"I'll never forget that night. It was like a romance novel, an old Broadway musical, and a John Wayne western rolled into one. Out for a quick drink with friends, I wasn't looking to meet anyone, let alone a tall, rugged cowboy who lived on a cattle ranch miles away from my cultured, corporate hometown. But before I knew it, I'd been struck with a lightning bolt... and I was completely powerless to stop it."

Revisado: 06-20-18
She's a REAL person, and though many of us first met her on TV, this story really encourages the rest of us real people out here. Thanks for sharing your story Ree, and the beginning adventures of your life with "Marlboro Man". I too have a "sicky" story from Australia, but mine was confined to an airplane bathroom and definitely wasn't as violent as yours.
