Historia
Instead of succumbing to life on the streets, Kimbrough sought the one thing that would redeem him from that dismal, expected fate—education. This is the story of a young man who, despite all the forces that worked against him, fiercely determined to make a better life for himself, and is resolute about showing others the way.

A must read about success through an impossible situation.
Revisado: 01-23-25
The first chapters of Orvin’s upbringing by an addicted mother and then an abusive foster/kinship placement are hard to hear. He brought the circumstances that many youth in impoverished areas face to life through his story. His determination to succeed and his accomplishments are inspiring. I have already recommended this book to several people. He was so honest and vulnerable, especially as someone in the public eye.

Historia
Israel is a tiny state, and yet it has captured the world's attention, aroused its imagination, and, lately, been the object of its opprobrium. Why does such a small country speak to so many global concerns? More pressingly: Why does Israel make the decisions it does? And what lies in its future? We cannot answer these questions until we understand Israel's people and the questions and conflicts, the hopes and desires, that have animated their conversations and actions.

Excellent, mildly but honestly biased, terrible narration

Brief history relatively well balanced and covers a lot.

Wish the reader had better pronunciation of Hebrew words. Overall a really nice overview of Israel’s history and did a decent job of framing the issues in a balanced way.

Historia
From Lewis and Clark's 1804 expedition to the 2014 uprising in Ferguson, American history has been made in St. Louis. And as Walter Johnson shows in this searing book, the city exemplifies how imperialism, racism, and capitalism have persistently entwined to corrupt the nation's past. St. Louis was a staging post for Indian removal and imperial expansion, and its wealth grew on the backs of its poor Black residents, from slavery through redlining and urban renewal.

Pronounce the names correctly
Revisado: 12-06-20
Good book although clearly represented a one sided view of history. As someone from the area, I wish the narrator had taken the time learn how to pronounce the names correctly. Other than that, good dramatic reading.
