Getting Worse
Revisado: 04-17-25
This book was good until about six hours left when the blind stupidity took hold. If the characters are going this route in book 4 it will be a sad day.

The use of a slingshot with animal tendons was painful to read. FYI slingshots need rubber, a sling would have been a great option, these are completely different weapons.

Nikolai doesn’t want much out of life: sex, immortality, and the power to disembowel anyone who crosses him. But with dark magic forbidden, his only option is Medea–a mage so deadly even the Enforcers give her a wide berth. Despite dire warnings that her apprentices don’t survive, Nikolai won’t stop until she agrees to train him. After all, he’s a killer himself.

Historia
Artorian has been given the lovely opportunity to run a realm and sort out all of its inherent issues. Not only does he get to chase around people with world-shattering abilities and force them into hibernation, he gets to break up his days by living through the worst portions of his life all over again. Between constant battles, Cal’s newfound love for math and pylons, the early stages of a world-spanning game system, and grumpy supervisors who refuse their bedtime…the sunny administrator has his now-tiny hands full. Exactly how he likes it.

Historia
Earth in 2064 is politically corrupt and in economic decline. The Long Depression has dragged on for 56 years, and the Bureau of Sustainable Research is hard at work making sure no new technologies disrupt the planned economy. Ten years ago, a band of malcontents, dreamers, and libertarian radicals bolted privately developed antigravity drives onto rusty seagoing cargo ships, loaded them to the gills with 20th-century tunnel-boring machines and earthmoving equipment, and set sail - for the moon.

Full of Cinematic Stupidity
Revisado: 09-27-18
The individual scenes are written great the dialogue is interesting and I liked most of the book. Even liking most of it I had to skip chapters due to the cinematic stupidity. At many points everyone even realizes their mistakes, contemplated it and understood thats why bad things happened; but no one ever takes the precaution against it. It would be like writing a world war with only one side using nukes because no one else realizes they have them. Its short sited and makes me uncertain if I would read works from this author in the future.

Every place on Earth, every distant planet humankind has settled, is now a step away from any other. And all seems wonderful - until a crashed alien spaceship of unknown origin is found on a newly located world 89 light-years from Earth, carrying a cargo as strange as it is horrifying. To assess the potential of the threat a high-powered team is dispatched to investigate. But one of them may not be all they seem....

Not enjoyable
Revisado: 09-09-18
I really wanted to like this book; I am a fan of Hamilton's other work such as the Commonwealth Saga and the Void Trilogy. This book showed promise but failed in form. The premise of the story was solid and the science fiction world was great. The book was more like an Anthology within the same universe. The stories within the book are meshed together and done so in a way that it feels like a whirlwind. And within the whirlwind of past, present and future the characters are telling additional stories. Its 15 stories in one and it was not enjoyable.

Nothing like Book 1
Revisado: 03-03-18
What would have made Transcendent better?
This book lost focus; it strayed into other characters and reduced the pace of the overall story. It then barely covered the main character from the first book and instead covered characters that we were made to dislike from the start of the story. It feels like the second book was cut into books two and three and then they took that half story and stretched it out to make up for not having enough substance.
Has Transcendent turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
