Come away dumber
Revisado: 08-01-21
This story sounds like it was written by an eighth grader who was assigned to write an essay that includes every possible diversity group and be sure to include lots of butt hurting about things that have nothing to do with producing for one’s employer but bring all your personal trouble making to the office and make the work environment ad political ad possible. Truly terrible writing where the characters are nothing more than the color of their skin, the style of their hair, and their ability to do virtually nothing while on the job besides make Spotify lists and online shop. I don’t expect Simplexity to stay in business for long.

Fleetwood Mac's classic 1977 Rumours album topped the Billboard 200 for 31 weeks and won the Album of the Year Grammy. More recently, Rolling Stone named it the 25th greatest album of all time and the hit TV series Glee devoted an entire episode to songs from Rumours, introducing it to a new generation. Now, for the first time, Ken Caillat, the album's co-producer, tells the full story of what really went into making Rumours.

Takes you into the studio...
Revisado: 02-04-19
I had read some negative reviews of this book, but I love Fleetwood Mac and the Rumours albums so I had to give it a listen. I was transported to the late 1970's and the free wheeling vibe of northern California and the Brit Blues and California mixture that made that one of a kind sound of Fleetwood Mac. The viewpoint of the author, Ken Caillat is that of an outsider who is inside for a period of time. He gets to witness, as well as take part, in the making of this masterpiece of rock music and then tell us how they did it. The conversations, the relationships, the drugs and alcohol, the clashes, the ethos that came together in the songs that we all love. I will likely listen to this book again, but in the meantime, I will be listening to my favorite band make that sweet mellow rock that has carried me through the last forty years.

Historia
Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. But when his publishers try to blackmail him into writing a Christmas book to save them all from financial ruin, he refuses. And a serious bout of writer's block sets in.

A fictional account of Charles Dickens...
Revisado: 02-04-19
I thoroughly enjoyed this telling of how Charles Dickens came to write A Christmas Carol. I know this is a fictional account, but the atmosphere and the narration really brought the times to life. I found my imagination wandering through the streets of London and following Mr. Dickens as he chased street urchins and ghosts through the back alleys. I liked it so much that I ended up purchasing several Dickens novels that I had not read so I could enjoy him some more.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 09-16-18
I listened to every chapter of this book and some chapters multiple times. This style of budgeting is perfect for me since it is both low-key but also effective in helping me accomplish my goals. I’ve lived paycheck to paycheck most of my life but am finally in a place where I’m able to save and invest and make my money work for me instead of the other way around. I have been using the YNAB software and also sharing the book with several family members. Thank you for this book - it has helped me so much!

So Sad To Listen To This Now...
Revisado: 07-23-18
As a writer, Bourdain is definitely gifted, but his performance here is flat and it sounds like he is literally reading off a sheet of paper rather than relating the story of his life. The audio quality is also not good, but the book is still worth a listen, or better yet, a read. The last chapter is a sad piece of irony because Bourdain literally says "but I'm still here, still alive" after some of the other crazy characters he's worked with and trained under didn't make it for various reasons. Of course, now that statement is no longer true.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Very engaging and uniquely told story
Revisado: 01-11-18
I really enjoyed this book. Bernadette’s quirky personality is very much like my own except I’m not a genius architect. Her daughter B is smart and precocious and the description of Seattle is spot on. I especially enjoyed the narration. If the narrator is the person who sings O Holy Night then she has a very lovely voice. This particular section of the book had me crying along with B!

Laugh Out Loud Hilarious!
Revisado: 10-30-17
I had not heard of this book before purchasing, but the description sounded intriguing. I have never laughed so hard while driving to work. The narrator captured the clueless nature of the protagonist perfectly. I haven't finished the book yet, but have already recommended it to several friends and can't wait to listen to the sequel!

Paris in Love: A Memoir chronicles her joyful year in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. With no classes to teach, no committee meetings to attend, no lawn to mow, Eloisa revels in the ordinary pleasures of life - discovering corner museums that tourists overlook, chronicling Frenchwomen’s sartorial triumphs, walking from one end of Paris to another.

If you like Readers Digest...
Revisado: 10-26-17
This book makes Paris sound like the most ordinary place on earth. If I was wondering what Paris is like and whether I might want to move there, reading this book would not help one bit. I think the author believes that her life is interesting and that she is a clever writer and that people would want to know all about her, but when boring people move to Paris, they are still boring! The writing is something akin to what I might write in my diary, but I haven't kidded myself into thinking that other people are interested in what I do every second of the day and every banal thought that pops into my head.

A Bad Book...
Revisado: 10-09-17
First I want to say that the narrator does a terrific job of capturing all of the nuance of the material. The author is definitely expounding on his feelings about consumerism, the penal system and maybe being a Jew in America, but the method is very bizarre and Kafka-esque in the picture it paints. There are some comical moments and some thoughtful commentary, but overall this book is disjointed and as ill-fitting as one of Leonard Feldman's prison suits. From Chapter 12 to Chapter 13 it feels like there is some missing material. One minute Leo is sleeping in an electric chair in the warden's basement, and the next, he is sitting in an auditorium listening to the warden give an evangelical speech on joys of conformation. If this was done on purpose, I'm afraid the meaning was lost on me.

Finding Gobi is the miraculous tale of Dion Leonard, a seasoned ultramarathon runner who crosses paths with a stray dog while competing in a 155-mile race through the Gobi Desert in China. The lovable pup, who would later earn the name Gobi, proved that what she lacked in size, she more than made up for in heart, as she went step for step with Dion over the Tian Shan Mountains and across massive sand dunes, keeping pace with him for 77 miles.

Revisado: 09-26-17
Finding Gobi is just the kind of story I like. A true story of love, sacrifice, friendship and loyalty. Things we could all use more of in our lives. I cried in some parts and smiled in others. If you love dogs or are into running marathons, you will like this book. I wish all the best to Dion, Luchja and little Gobi!
